A very important letter – Part B

This is the second part of a letter sent to Tommy Davis in August. The first part, and some context, can be found as a post on this blog by scrolling down a few posts.

A very important letter to Tommy Davis, Part B

This was my state of mind when I was online doing research and chanced upon an interview clip with you on CNN. The interview lasted maybe ten minutes – it was just you and the newscaster. And in it I saw you deny the church’s policy of disconnection. You said straight-out there was no such policy, that it did not exist.

I was shocked. We all know this policy exists. I didn’t have to search for verification – I didn’t have to look any further than my own home.

You might recall that my wife was ordered to disconnect from her parents because of something absolutely trivial they supposedly did twenty-five years ago when they resigned from the church. This is a lovely retired couple, never said a negative word about Scientology to me or anyone else I know – hardly raving maniacs or enemies of the church. In fact it was they who introduced my wife to Scientology.

Although it caused her terrible personal pain, my wife broke off all contact with them. I refused to do so. I’ve never been good at following orders, especially when I find them morally reprehensible.

For a year and a half, despite her protestations, my wife did not speak to her parents and they had limited access to their grandchild. It was a terrible time.

That’s not ancient history, Tommy. It was a year ago.

And you could laugh at the question as if it was a joke? You could publicly state that it doesn’t exist?

To see you lie so easily, I am afraid I had to ask myself: what else are you lying about?

  1. I am so glad that someone else besides me watches CNN. I saw that interview as well and I still don’t believe it happened. It is such a blatant lie. I really almost threw up in my mouth watching it especially since I used to work with Tommy. Man has he gone way down hill. I remember when he was the really cool guy with the convertible BMW, beautiful wife and the laid back attitude who got to hang with all the celebs. Now he is just the puppet face of the church. His wife is out of the SO so he is most likely alone now. Too bad. He was such a nice guy. I really thought that he was smarter than that.
But then again he did get photographed making out with Kirstie Alley in Italy. But he didn’t go to the RPF for out 2D. Amazing how you can get away with murder, or it’s SO equivalent when you are connected to famous people.

  2. That had a big impact in me. Just wrong, so very very wrong. The relationship between grandparent and grandchild is sacred ground. Thats the kind of thing that I will keep in mind through-out this cycle.
    Thankyou for posting this.

  3. He’s got a new wife and she’s just like him and is his partner in crime – Jessica Feshback. Both of them tried to intimidate my ex-husband (Chris) and scare him into unthinking silence & compliance. He refused to agree with their crap and at the end of the interview, when Chris was leaving and tried to shake Tommy’s hand – he wouldn’t even shake Chris’s hand. What a noble knight, eh?

I would have to agree with the writer of this letter 100%. Tommy Davis is a bald-faced liar. Disconnection policy is as alive as ever and Tommy personally enforced it with my family in April of this year which is after his CNN interview. In fact, Tommy Davis told us that he is “IJC” for the Int base and wrote the declares on us which resulted in our friends and family disconnecting. Nice job Tommy.

Big dog in the tall grass? Has he EVER had a meeting without hiding behind the skirt of an escort? I have yet to hear of one.

  5. martyrathbun09

Martin, this is by no means limited. You should check out Christie’s story – Clearwater Independents post of a couple weeks ago.

  6. Funny I knew Jessica when she was just a child and a fun child. She was a twin and both girls joined the SO. She had a medical problem and was sent home to handle and then went back in.

She was married to a couple other people that I knew of and then I saw where she married Tommy Davis.

I am convinced that DM only wants those who completely adore him around. The problem with this is that at some point he will tire of them and they will be tossed asside. However, Jessica comes from a family who has given DM lots of money and will continue to defend him. These guys were short sellers in the stock market they figured out how to play the game. Bought up companies that were completely worthless then brought them back up again. It is the game of the Stock Market. Extremely faithful and thanksful to DM. Matt used to tour the Bay Area to let all know about Super Power because according to him he had it delivered up at INT.

These people would not think twice about disconnection. I have very close friends who have been and continue to be disconnected from family and friends. The strange thing about all this being you can not be totally free if you can’t take a stand and see the truth for yourself.

Please, please tell me this is not true, he did not actually publicly deny disconnection policy? I saw Mike R on TV explain it very well once, but this!!?!?! I mean even from a purely PR point of view. If your predecessor explained it accurately just months before, how do you then come out and deny it exists? I’m feeling sick right now, I just can’t believe he would say that publicly when there are literally hundreds of stories about this sort of thing all over the world, and people know this is true.
I mean it is one thing to defend the policy and since I have had to use it validly I stand behind it, (the policy when used to get real suppression off your lines, not its misuse and abuse as in the case of family members who are not in fact suppressive) but to lie and say it does not exist? C’mon you think people are stupid? Why not just shoot yourself on the foot that would be faster and less stupid!
The truth is not just more honest but a lot more understandable than his statement. The idea that you have a right to sever communication and any ties to the likes of David Miscavige is very valid and it is what the policy is all about, but it gets abused and misused. Just stating that and that the Church would look into cases in which the policy is abused, would have been perfectly acceptable to non Scientologist.

  8. Don’t know this Tommy Davis, only met his mother back when I worked at CCI (back in the days when the Celebs mingled with the unwashed masses) who seemed like a nice person.

However, from what I’ve seen of him in action. I am not impressed. The guy is Miscavige’s shill nothing more nothing less. At least Heber did what he did on behalf of the Church, but this guy Tommy does whatever he’s doing purely as a flak for Miscavige.

As we know disconnection was canceled back in 1968 but Miscavige has resurrected it and uses it as leverage to extort compliance. Just like fair game which was canceled around the same time.

However just like any Black Dianetic practitioner he knows that it can be used as an effective weapon in his mind control arsenal.

  9. Thank you for posting this.

  10. Tommy is the perfect tool for DM. Never been to the int base, a history of out ethics to be exposed. Willing to do anything to prove himself. God help the kid. He’s gonna need help With his resume when this is all over.

  11. That’s simply disgusting. He’s right on the tail of his grandmaster, who lied publicly about knowing an LRH lecture during an interview!! What a shame!

  12. Concerned Citizen

This post really got to me, because the subject of disconnection is such a button, it is a huge source of upset. My upset came from the fact that I was PRECLUDED from disconnecting when I really should have been allowed to. It is really interesting, most of the stories we hear are from wrongful disconnection, this is bad, but to really get my drift, I thought about the whole premise of reverse Scientology. I watched the Video Jim posted by Pierre Ethier.
I linecharged. (this keeps happening to me here) because as he read the bulletin, I realized this was exactly what had been happening to me, It is reverse Scientology, Anyway, I then ran into this and I usually have BPC on the subject of disconnect from the opposite end of the spectrum, being unable to disconnect from a genuinely suppressive source. ( LRH Says handle and only if that doesn’t work you disconnect, they said) Well, when do you finally realize that the handling is not handling? 20 years later? 50? I finally did manage to disconnect and it was the right thing to do. But boy if I told you the story of what I had to do to achieve that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have also had to disconnect from people I knew are not SPs That was upsetting too. So the subject gets so convoluted, is like DMs ideology enforces a new policy- “You disconnect when you shouldn’t= from good people who are not SPs but whom I feel are a threat to me, but not when you should, because though the person you are effect of is a raving lunatic, they are not a threat to me or may become a threat if you do disconnect”. If used properly, disconnection is very therapeutic, just look at Marty and company, away from the suppression they look and are so much better. But misused it is guaranteed to cause chaotic situations.
In almost every situation where there is widespread wrong application of the tech resulting in upsets, I find that there is a pattern of using the tool when it shouldn’t be used, and not using and even withholding it when it is actually needed.
I found this story in a site I had never before tonight, dare look at. I really understand this person. I actually can’t believe I’m where I’m at now finally realizing the who and the why has helped me blow so much charge!!!!!!!
You can find the original of this story in the Voices in unison part of the Ex Scientologist kids. I have not read anyting else on the site, so I don’t know what it is like, I just know that this story is very very real to me.

  13. Concerned Citizen

Here is the story I read tonight, it illustrates the 2 sides of the policy abuse and misuse beautifully
I’ve never really spoken about my time in the Church. Only my family and one of two close friends know I was a Scientologist, and that I was married. I don’t tell people, because frankly, it sounds too weird to talk about.
I’ve never spoken about it out of fear of retribution, fear of hurting those I admire who are still in the CoS, and the fact that I still believe in the effects of overts and natter and the fact that I really don’t think Im a bad person and therefore don’t want to act like and SP. I don’t think Ive been declared as yet, and really don’t want to be – because Im not one, and it would hurt like mad that people could think such a thing when they knew me so well.
Having said that though, Ive been out of the church for over 5 years, and despite silent phone numbers and several house moves, they keep trying to find me. Im sick of it, Ive had enough, I don’t want to be harassed anymore. Perhaps telling my story will put them off.
My highschool boyfriend was in a scientology family, and I did a course with him while I was at my first year of university. Everyone was nice, warm, caring and I liked the place.
I was recruited onto the TTC when I was 18. It was obvious at the time that I was only being recruited because they wanted to use me as leverage to recruit my boyfriend – I was openly told that in the interview – and then potentially his family could be recruited too. I didn’t mind, I thought they were doing this for a noble cause.
I trained up to Class IV internship GAT auditor but never get much auditing myself – I was too PTS. I suffer from migraines, and was therefore not suitable to audit. The fact that my mother was schizophrenic and heavily opposed to the church was a huge problem.
I got married to my boyfriend because it was expected. I remember an IAS speaker asking us when we were planning to get married when I was still 18… I was shocked at how normal he thought that was. After being in the Church for a year, I thought it was normal too. Funny how your perceptions change.
Most of the problems I had with people in the church centred around the problem of my SP mother. Now I still agree that the woman is nuts. She is a terrible mother and I try not to have any contact with her. However, many incidents occurred (including my mother-in-law being instructed by senior staff to try to make my mother go completely insane. She tried, and of course made matters worse.) and a lot of it was to try to get my mother to sign an affidavit that she wouldn’t sue the church.
In the end, I said “hey – standard tech is to disconnect from the SP. So that is what I will do.” Well, everyone went off the deep end. You cant do that, she might sue us!! Well, it’s the correct thing to do, and Ill never get audited if I don’t. Too bad, the reputation of the church in the media is more important than you following policy or getting up the bridge missy.
There are lots of double standards in the church, and policy can be used to justify almost anything. You can natter all you like about public that are “difficult” to get money out of, or a fellow staff member if they are in ethics, and that isn’t considered an overt. Seemed wrong to me.
Some things are done that were downright horrid. Its quite acceptable to keep someone in a room inside the org overnight while you try to convince them to join staff, and not let them leave. I joined staff because I thought I could help people. I didn’t realise it meant years of working 7 nights a week, hardly ever allowed to take time off to see family and friends, working for free most of the time and being expected to coerce others into doing the same. All staff I knew were broke. That was one motivating factor for more staff – the more you have the more income, therefore we might actually get paid!!! Great trick, that. And if you DID have money, there was always an IAS event that would convince you to hand it over. Everyone I knew that joined staff with money didn’t have it for long.
When I got pregnant I suffered from a lot of bleeding and was ordered by a doctor to have bed rest and no work. I was so stressed and I had no family or friend support (they had all drifted away). Ill never forget the phonecall where a senior staff member rang to tell me I should be at the org auditing and it shouldn’t matter if the baby dies – doing my duty was more important. I was even threatened with a ComEv. I stuck to my guns and stayed home, despite the harassment. When the baby did eventually die, she rang to tell me I shouldn’t blame myself, and to get back in the org immediately. Too bad that I was still very ill.
When I was punched in the face by my husband during an argument (when I was pregnant), I was sent to ethics to have my overts pulled and nearly lost it when the auditor said I had to have done something to MAKE him hit me. It was my fault apparently – my husband worked in the ethics department. When he wanted to go to Flag for training later, he and the ED asked me very pointedly “are you SURE it wasn’t just a slap? You know, you may just have exaggerated a bit?” I replied “sure, just a slap. Whatever you think”. I figured if he wanted to lie, he could. Who cares. At that point I was sick of being ethics bait and was happy to avoid any conflict.
“Face-ripping” is another wonderful thing done to staff. I’ve had it done to me twice. Both for writing a Knowledge Report about senior staff (so much for the policy regarding Knowledge Reports). I was accused of being an SP during the first face-ripping by a guy who later was found to be stealing thousands from patrons. The second one was by the ED, with my husband helping him by guarding the door so I couldn’t leave. Conveniently this was done during the staff meeting occurring in the next room. Presumably to warn other staff not to criticise senior staff either. That’s when I realised the group I was in was not a healthy place to be. It finally dawned on me. The only people who do this kind of stuff to another person were “suppressive”. By staying I was committing an “overt of omission” – I would make it ok for this to be done to another, by making it look as though it works. By going, perhaps the higher administration would come under scrutiny from higher up in the chain. I didn’t really know that this was the same shit done in every damn CoS, and was worse in the SO. However, I haven’t been declared as far as I know, so perhaps someone realises Im not evil.
After 3 years, I had had enough. I was simply a cash cow, auditing people instead of getting my training finished. Money is more important than making sure people get the quality they think they are paying for. It was frustrating and it felt unethical. Every time I opened my mouth I was sent to ethics. I was so stressed I was having migraines constantly (and expected to audit through them, even thowing up), I was sick all the time, I was so thin I couldn’t recognise myself in the mirror. I made it clear I was not happy and I needed help. None happened. Everyone firmly believed in the policy that an auditor just gets shoved back in to work, it doesn’t matter whats wrong with them.
One day I left a note for my husband and packed my bags. I left, and it broke my heart – not leaving the bastard, but to leave when I felt I owed the public I was supposed to help, and the staff that were my friends. I didn’t turn up to the church that night, and the people I was supposed to audit began asking questions. Everyone was absolutely furious.
I have been back twice over the past 5 years, out of a feeling of guilt, to do ethics. The public I knew were lovely and were simply glad to see me and glad to see I was trying to get “back on track”. Most of the staff hated me, and I mean full-on HATED me. I decided I was happier, healthier and could still help people without being in such a nasty environment. The ones who didn’t hate me were too scared to be very friendly. They had all been told I was an SP, a real boogyman. I realised that as much as I loved helping people and still thought the technology would work, I would never be trusted, I would forever be ethics-bait, and the problems in the Church were the same as they had ever been. The public may have problems with being ripped off, but staff can really suffer.
I still feel really sad about the whole thing, but since I left I got divorced, have finished a degree, have a successful career, have wonderful relationships with my family and friends. I rarely have migraines anymore, Im very healthy and achieving so much. I feel really happy with my life, and there is no way I will give all that up to go back.
If you are still in the Church and you are happy there – great. It would be nice if you can make sure policy isn’t being used as an excuse for verbal or mental abuse. There is no excuse for that behaviour, I don’t care how it is justified. Stand up for your own integrity and be willing to stand by your guns if you think something is wrong. What Ive been through is nothing compared to others. Im sorry I wasn’t strong enough to stay in the church and fix things from the inside.

  14. For anyone interested you can watch the CNN interview with Tommy Davis here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTxfHz6kEMk

The question re disconnection is at 5:10 min into the video.

  15. Patty Pieniadz

For those of you who haven’t seen Tommy lying about disconnection and other matters, here’s the clip.

Also look at Tommy. He looks like he hasn’t slept in days and is ready to pass out.

  16. Mark,

This letter is fairly interesting and I agree with the sentiments expressed so far. However, these views are probably held by a great many people now, some still in the CoS, most out. And I expect quite a few of them have tried to communicate similar things to Miscavige and his cronies.

So why is this particular letter so important?

Presumably it has something to do with the identity of the writer, but since I don’t know who that is, I cannot judge how significant this letter really is.

    Axiom142

  17. Just to understand your points of view – do you disagree with the disconnection policy ie: Hubbard Communications Office Bulletin (HCOB) of 10 September 1983, “PTSness AND DISCONNECTION” – or just the way in which it is applied under miscavige

  18. I’ve reviewed the video myself, it’s completely revolting that this guy represents the church!!! 100% liar. Every scientologist worth the name knows that policy not only exists as reinforced by Miscavige, but it’s in full force and wildly abused.

  19. Disconnection is obviously wrong when enforced. Disconnection from his parents has been the cause of OT8 Mike Henderson to turn against the Church and I wonder in how many cases disconnection created disaffection, bad PR and attacks.

By 1983 probably Miscavige had told so many lies to justify his political purges (Mission Holders, David Mayo and others) that the re-institution of disconnection was the best tool he could use to stop the truth from being communicated.

“Any Scientologist found to be maintaining a line with, offering support to, or in any way granting credence to David Mayo and his actions or motives is also subject to declare and denials of any further services.” IJC, 2 March 1983

Disconnection got reinstated by HCOB 10 Sept 83 by order from Miscavige.

“…The directive that I wrote concerned the Scientology policy of ‘Disconnection’. The order to do this came from David Miscavige. Miscavige said that we had to reinstitute the Policy of Disconnection and that I was to write the policy for this. I wrote it and it went through several revisions. It was not sent to Hubbard for his approval, but was issued into the Church of Scientology.” Robert Vaughn Young

  20. martyrathbun09

It is not a matter of a single policy letter taken with no context. The policy was issued at the request of Miscavige when he held the only communication line to LRH. It was accompanied by false and alarming reports that the Mission Holder “uprising” was some governmental operation to take out LRH. It was issued at a time when there was some possibility of a fair justice proceeding – as specified there is recourse for anyone under the SP Acts PL – so that there could be some rationality of application. Since, the entire justice apparatus has been dismantled. In application, within the church it is used almost exclusively as a tool to suppress the free flow of information and to enforce unthinking loyalty to DM. For more context see T Paine’s Mechanisms of Miscavige at Scientology-cult.com.

  21. martyrathbun09

    Your presumption is correct.

  22. martyrathbun09

    Thanks for sharing your story.

  23. martyrathbun09

Great point CC. It is the ideology – blind loyalty to a regime – that trumps policy and tech.

  24. I also want to say thanks for sharing and for taking a step toward bringing transparency and accountability. Please consider fleshing out your story even more, and posting it as either a KR on scientology-cult.com. It shows how the horrendous insanity that emanates from DM has filtered into to all levels of the Church.

  25. CC,
Yes, in fact Tommy said there is no policy of disconnection as ‘characterized’ by the interviewer, John Roberts. He shortly after, in his circuitry answer, coughed out the flat denial.

I’ll admit, it struck me similarly to you. Never use lies in PR is a basic datum in the PR Series. They will come back to haunt.

Here we are, very real, and very haunting.

  26. UD,
Tommy is the ‘dupe’ referred to in the actual materials of the Truth Rundown.

  27. NOTSaware,
DM not only lied about the lecture, he dismissed it scornfully. He guffawed. He is willing to lie, and carry out any other pusillanimous characteristic, for his destructive purposes.

David Miscavige is an anti-Scientologist. He is anti-Scientology. He is anti-LRH. His ‘dupes’, like Tommy Davis, forward his lies.

I was there when the ABC Nightline crew came to film at the Int Base. I watched the ‘triumphant’ interview with the rest of the base. I watched as he, like some dramatization out of the New Testament, denied LRH, then denied Scientology, all in an effort to curry approval from the ‘establishment’.

On the bright side, it’s becoming ever apparent to almost exponentially increasing numbers, he is not a Scientologist.

  28. Mike,
It is also curious to note, in the original list of SP acts, from the first version of 23 Dec 65 policy, in the original Vol 1 OEC, that disconnection was related to someone ‘demonstrably guilty’ of suppressive acts.

“Suppressive Acts are defined as actions or omissions undertaken to knowingly suppress, reduce or impede Scientology or
    Scientologists.”

When people are declared capriciously and falsely, when they don’t commit actual injury (see Manual of Justice, Points to Establish, point one), that is knowingly calculated to suppress in the list of ways given in the policy, or even if they do, their contributions outweigh some momentary stress that is the actual fact behind the act, and where people are simply dismissed because they refuse to follow real suppressive actions, then ‘disconnection’, enforced arbitrarily and in contradiction to the purposes and aims of Scientology, is in itself, ‘suppressive’.

This form of ‘disconnection’ is done to cut theta lines as per An Essay on Management, and has nothing to do with LRH’s intention, or factual policy on the subject. It has nothing to do with the rights of a being to give or receive communication when they desire it, which IS part of the single ETHICS code in Scientology, the Code of Honor.

Like any part of this subject, it can be used with a good intention or as in the current reich’s ‘command intention’ for destruction.

  29. Mostly Lurker,
Good job on your lurking. Thanks for that post.

  30. I saw this also and was perturbed at it. It isn’t OK and I am glad for you do something about it and I am glad for Marty posting it so the web – the majority can know.

    Nothing beats bold self expression.

  31. What a pretentious, whining idiot. Tommy made an utter fool of himself chasing John Sweeney around during the filming of the BBC report, and has gone downhill ever since. However, DM probably thinks he’s following orders just fine.

They’re both loony tunes at this point.

  32. Disconnection is the single most horrific policy LRH put into place. There are people who haven’t talked to their families for 30 years. It’s horrible.

I’m sorry about what your wife had to go through.

  33. Very accurate dear fellow.

  34. I also saw the TD video where he lied about disconnection. I shrieked in disbelief! I had once been forced to disconnect from my children, but I am no longer subject to this policy. I will never again disconnect from a loved one because of extortion, threats, fear, disapproval, being ganged up on by EO’s, or any of the other methods of force used.

  35. Concerned Citizen

Sorry, but this is not my story, it is a story I found when I googled various wordings for can not disconnect. It is from Ex Scientology kids http://exscientologykids.com/voicesinunison.html
It is story # 2. As I said in the previous post.
I posted it here because it shows how the same tool is wrongly enforced and the right to use it is withheld when in fact needed. My story is much too long, much to convoluted and unbelievable to post here or anywhere. I’m still piecing it together with the new view point I have.
Also due to my current position, I cannot afford to publish my story or details that could clue them about my identity. But I was prevented from disconnecting when I really needed to 3 times, no less. And I had to get creative to finally be able to in effect disconnect. I was also order to disconnect from at least 7 different individuals who I know are not SPs. I hated it but did it, not willing to jeopardize my bridge. As it is I took an enormous risk looking into what Marty had to say and I’m glad I did.
I am and will always be a Scientologist, all the wrongs visited upon me, (I have always been able to recognize are the result of misapplication of the tech) will never out weight the enormous benefit I have received from using the tech correctly. I literally could not be myself without Scientology. And I have a box full of the thank- yous from all the people I have been able to help with it.
I may be delusional, but still have faith we can get our church back, I have faith in people within the church, people like Mark Yaeger and Lesevre. I see that this forum is creating an impact. I know what the correct handling is to get the church bak on the reails and if done, it can again be the awesome place it was when we first found it in the 60s and 70s.
LRH said, and I trust, that once you started man, you cannot stop him, and that when it is all going to hell in a hand basket, remember the dream is true. I now feel much more at cause as a Scientologist, because of this group. Miscavige does not realize that he I so close to pure theta, source and has misusing his strength so, that when the backlash finally comes, it will be so hard, he may never make it.
BUT WE WILL, AND WE WILL IN NO SMALL PART THANKS TO THIS GROUP. Finally here is a solution, a real solution and in short order, or may be not so short, but eventually, things will change.

  36. Concerned Citizen

Jim, I love that you and I are alway tracking. I really get that you get LRH. You are a true Scientologist.

  37. Yes he did.
Here is the interview, where re denied the existence of any disconnection policy:

Notice, how he even speaks over the reporter, who is asking him several times to simply explain what “disconnection” is referring to.

I agree with you that Mike Rinder did a much better job as a spokesperson for CoS.

  38. @Christie
WOW I can’t believe that he and Jessica are married. I thought she was married to Andreas the Snr C/S WUS. Well I know she really is more interested in being connected than helping. She has avoided responsibility for any wrong doing that she was directly related with her whole Sea Org career. Marrying Tommy must have made her parents so proud.

And if Tommy is IJC then the quals for that post are SEVERELY lax now. He has done so many things that would be an out qual for Int I wouldn’t even be able to list them all here. So I have no idea how he got that job other than he is Anne Archers son and he too is buds with Tom Cruise.
Which once again proves that if you are connected then nothing bad can happen to you and you can literally get away with murder. Sorta like the old Ka Kons. (I know I spelled that wrong but you know what I mean.)

Tom Davis will get his come uppings once this is all said and done because since he has publicly made himself the face of this supposed “church” NO ONE in their right mind is going to hire this guy to shovel their shit.

Good thing he has a famous mommy to take care of him.
I am sorry that he treated you and your husband like that Christie. People being treated like chattel has to stop. It is so un-scientological it isn’t even funny.

  39. To be fair to Tommy, it’s not really anything new. The church has been lying about disconnection for eons. Mike Rinder did the same back in 2006, [see: http://www.xenutv.com/us/ritacosby-022706.wvx ].

  40. Marty,

Thank you for these additional data re how the hcob on disconnection came out.

The data you gave are very important and IMO they are an essential part of the Truth Rd because you made us understand how a policy that has created so much trouble came about.

I read many of the LRH advices Ron wrote in 1981-82. Do you also mean that many of the advices to management written by Ron in that time frame were originated because of DM painting a scene too dark? Sorry if I ask you but I feel that these information are very important.

    Thanks Paolo

  41. martyrathbun09

    Yes.

  42. CC,
I understand. No worries from me mate, we’re on the same team no matter what our placement on the line is.

    Sincerely,
    Jim

  43. I’d like to know if auditor’s aren’t being made right now, if anyone has data on that. It’s off topic but I usually just post in the new thread. I’ve been reading accounts of tons of auditors being made in the 60’s and 70’s and “pretty much every scientologist had auditor training” was something I read. I don’t know if this if from the GAT or some other area where things were changed or a combination of things. One thing’s for sure, making auditors isn’t being pushed in the usual way right now, with the basics taking precedence.

One way to save scientology is have lots of high classed auditors who form together if the ship goes down and do form groups and missions, and also lots who’ve done the OEC/FEBC. I’d think if DM had half a brain he’d make these two things his “pet projects” instead of real estate and getting everybody to read basics instead of HCOB’s.

  44. Well I’ll tell you this StarsAwait. I did a full stat analysis of the ASHO Auditor Mag from the mid-80’s which is when I graduated from the BC to around 2002.

On an average they were making 5 to 12 Class VIs per Auditor issue, those reported in the completions with a highest ever in 92 of 26 Class VIs made when Chris Montgomery was the D of T Fdn (funny thing was they declared Chris SP and removed her from post after this, go figure) and after that it leveled out to about 5 to 6, until the Golden Age of Tech was released (you know the “new tech” Miscavige developed that was a suppossed to make an “army of auditors”) at which point the stat flat lines and goes on life support averaging 0 for several issues then it finally “recovers” to its “peak” of about 2 or 3, sometimes 4 Saint Hill grads.

Now I haven’t checked the stats since but I’ve read that ALL auditor trainees are now being routed off their training and forced to do the “Basics” before continuing with their auditor training! Despite the fact that the basic books are covered on the Levels and SH!

It is even more dismal for Class VIII. I believe that there has only been at total of 5 Class VIIIs made since GAT! Count ’em baby 5!

What Miscavige has done has cut out the incentive for doing VIII. Before per Policy you could coaudit OT IV.

    Not any more!

Because Miscavige has arbitrarily restricted the delivery of OT auditing to the SO in an effort to maintain the security of the advanced levels!

We can see how well that worked! (‘scuse me while I download a LDN OT III and a couple of L7s off my favorite website here)

Not only that but any candidate who wants to do Class VIII now has to receive a full eligibility much like the one done before one can do the OT levels meaning he or she has to pay for it. Because delivering eligibility has now been restricted to SO!

Meaning even if you are a crack interned Class VI who has delivered thousands of hours of auditing and therefore are trained in the procedures required for what is called “eligibility” which is basically FPRD, you are no longer allowed to coaudit it and must now receive it in the HGC , just like any other schmuck.

Not only that! But since you haven’t officially started the Class VIII course, since they don’t know if you’re moral enough to audit people, you have to pay full rates for this arbitrary!

    “Abitraries Canceled”. Sure, sure.

Any way this so called “Army of Auditors” is really turning into Sgt. Fury’s Ghost Battalion because most people don’t want to jump through all those hoops. Miscavige has basically made “training” a torturous and arduous ordeal that most people avoid now, because it has become such a long runway!

Besides now with the “New” Grades auditing has become much faster, now. At least this is what you continually read in “Source Mag”. So why bother getting trained?

In RED 107 Int Orders For Immediate Compliance, Ron says: (begin fair use quote)

“Courses should be fast, auditing drawn out. This is the exact reverse to what has been happening. SLOW COURSES AND FAST AUDITING DESTROY THE SUBJECTS OF DIANETICS AND SCIENTOLOGY(my emphasis added). Fast courses and long long hours of auditing are the route to real gains and solvency.”

    (end of fair use quote)

This was written back in 1970 when a quickie trend in Scientology had almost wiped out the subject. Seems Davy is about to repeat history.

  45. I’m no Scientologist. I’m just a person deeply interested in your religion’s future and find the unraveling story addicting and inspiring. Such transparency is refreshing.

I would like to compare your “scripture perspective shift” to an Old Testament parallel. Moses wrote some HARD things to do: stone people who were gay; stone disobedient children; stone people caught in adultery; stone soothsayers and more. The God of the Old Testament commanded some harsh things.

And NO current Christian org does such things anymore. Even if they believe the Bible is inspired. They have found the right balance between mythos and reality.

My hope is that Scientology will do the same with disconnection and other policies and ascend to a better practice.

    ARC to you all.

  46. I could go on and on about Tommy and what he was like. But that interview and the one where he starts screaming for the St Times artical just proves where he has sunk.
This any new information. Even Mike Rinder lied outright as well about disconnection.
Just waiting to hear who this is.

  47. Stars,
Just so you know, there are many, many such highly trained in Scientology, right this minute, in session, running groups and going forward completely bypassing the CofS under DM’s thumb.

The message of flourish and prosper isn’t lost on us.

I just got a mail today from one such person who made a new Class VIII. He’s on a purpose to make 100 before he leaves this life’s body. He’s not waiting for DM’s approval. In fact, DM declared him.

I sure hope you went either on study or in session today yourself. I did.

  48. martyrathbun09

Great analogy. I have used it myself.

  49. martyrathbun09

Thanks RJ. Did you mean 92 in your first para?

  50. You’re welcome Marty 🙂

No actually I meant to around 2002 (I had a lot of time on my hands, writer’s block etc, so I did approximately two decades) Actually ’92 was the biggest spike as Miscavige likes to say “straight up and vertical”, so they comm eved the person responsible. I guess that’s how the COB handles any actual affluences as opposed to the delusional ones you see at events.

Mid ’96 just after the release of GAT was when the stat moved in the direction of Hades. In other words crashed like the North and South Towers.

I guess you could call it “statistical terrorism” and Davy Scientology’s answer to Mohamed Atta.

At least that’s the way I see it.

  51. martyrathbun09

Well put. Anyone from Int will tell you the moment anybody demonstrated a great deal of competence and fellow staff began to notice, Miscavige’s cross hairs would soon appear on their foreheads.

  52. Jim, yep that’s my plan. I’ve already crossed the Rubicon and making preparations. It’s good to know you and Marty etc. are out there, it helps people make this decision.

  53. RJ, thanks that was awesome and very clear, especially the LRH quote, which is lost tech I guess.

GAT Pro metering grads are looked at with awe because it takes a year, for example.

  54. martyrathbun09

Sorry for the delay – had audio difficulties. You are right.

  55. CofS spokesperson Pat Harney publicly denied the practice of disconnection last year: http://www2.tbo.com/content/2008/apr/12/about-200-protest-scientology/

In January of 2008 CofS spokesperson Karin Pouw in a statement regarding the biography of Tom Cruise also denied disconnection as follows:

“7. Does Scientology encourage their members not to speak to their family if they don’t support the religion?

This allegation is not only false, it is the opposite of what the Church believes and practices. ”

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22658115/

Lying about the unsavory aspects of CofS is not limited to Tommy Davis, particularly slimy though he may be.

  56. An argument I’ve made many times over the years: if Christians can learn to choose how to apply the Bible, even though they believe it to be the word of God, in such a way as to minimize destruction and learn how to get along with the rest of the world, so can Scientologists apply Scientology – written by a mere man – so as emphasize the enlightened aspects and minimize the worst.

In my opinion, if CofS is to continue to exist Scientologists must learn to do so. However, that will take some self-examination as a group to determine what is destructive and what needs to be emphasized to rectify such destructiveness.

  57. Hey tell me about it Marty!

When I was at AOLA, close to 70% of the tech staff were non SO. We took the HGC from 5o lousy stinking WDAHs per week to over 630 WDAHs per week.

Everybody was pretty happy about all this, even Ivan the Terrible was all jazzed and we all had our ethics folders cleared several times. I mean we could do no wrong and then all of a sudden AO went Saint Hill size.

Well Davy thanked all us nonSO for all our dedicated service by basically dismissing our sorry asses and writing up an edict that forbid all nonSO from working in a SO Org.

    Talk about gratitude!

  58. martyrathbun09

    Par for the course.

  59. Exactly, Everfree. The same policies exist for every Scientologist. Only a few like to specialize in misapplication of the policies that give the entire subject a bad name. Even “disconnection” is necessary on occasion. How would you like to be living next door to Charles Manson? No, that is a guy that society should disconnect from. And it did. My point is that an evilly intentioned person will justify his actions with a line from this policy and another line from that policy. Most decent people just use policy to get things done for the greater good of all. So, who do you blame, the policies or the people who used them for nefarious ends? I blame the latter.

  60. I agree with Joe Howard on this.

After reading the blog I looked up and re-read the policy.

The main thing that jumped out of it for me is this line.

“The term “disconnection” is defined as a self-determined decision made by an individual that he is not going to be connected to another.”

    Note the SELF-DETERMINED aspect!

This is also a good quote from the same PL

“An Ethics Officer can encounter a situation where someone is factually connected to a suppressive person, in present time. This is a person whose normal operating basis is one of making others smaller, less able, less powerful. He does nopt want anyone to get better, at all.

“In truth, an SP is absolutely, completely terrified of anyone becoming more powerful.

“In such an instance the PTS isn’t going to get anywhere trying to “handle” the person. The answer is to sever the connection.”

The problem is not the policy – it is in the application or misapplication of it.
