Where we are going

DM has sent agents close to me and close to Independent friends, clamoring to find out where we are going.  In myriad ways they try to discern our “strategy.”  It is quite apparent that until and unless someone comes up with an answer that resembles something DM would do (like compete to take over the monopoly, or exact revenge by any means necessary), the agents will continue to be sent in trying to get or even manufacture the answer he wants to hear. Yes, “manufacture.” He’s even had a “cell” contact me about leading an allegedly well organized group to execute a coup d’etat.  Somehow he can’t get it through his head that some folks really just want to free the technology from sinking out of sight with the ship.  I continue to find LRH references that capture my philosophy and that of my best friends. Here’s another:

“I try to look far enough in the future to forecast and predict what might be, so as to not do too many things wrong. You must allow me some percentage. And as I look into the future, I see that we are handling, here, material of a potential control and command over Mankind which must not be permitted at any time to become the monopoly or the tool of the few to the danger and disaster of the many.  And maybe in this I am simply being overly proud, conceited or optomistic. But I would never for a moment step back from the role of being conceited just to be approved of or just to be wrong in a prediction. And I believe that prediction is right.

“And I believe that the freedom of the material which we know and understand is guaranteed only by a lightness of organization, a maximum of people, good training and good, reliable, sound relay of information. And if we can do these things, we will win. But if we can’t do these things, sooner or later the information which we hold will become the property of the untrustworthy few. This I am sure, because it has always happened this way. But that’s no reason it has to keep happening this way. I am not of an inevitable frame of mind.

“I have no illusions about either the unimportance of Scientology or its importance. You see, it’d be very, very easy to get a swollen idea either way. It’d be a very simple thing, you know, to take a look at it and then take an opinion of it, independent of its actuality. Scientology, well understood, is a very powerful thing. Well used, it can do a great deal for the social order and for the individual. Poorly relayed, poorly communicated, monopolized or used exclusively for gain, it could be a very destructive thing.”

While many want to argue about how and where and by whom Scientology may be used, many of us are out here moving ahead just using it the best way we know how to help improve conditions for ourselves and others.  Everyday we feel like we are doing more good with the subject and more good for our environments than we ever did during our years and decades behind the Wall.

Strategy?  To use Scientology to improve conditions by the best means we are individually equiped to do so with; and to help our fellows do the same.

Somehow, I also wouldn’t put this past actual members of Anonymous.

    • Yet without Anonymous, this blog probably wouldn’t exist.

      • Chad,
        How old ARE you?

      • Jim,
That question is irrelevant to the statement. I’ve been following scn. On the internet for over 10 years and the biggest boost in getting the word out about the abuses of scn and dm came after anonymous started their antics.

      • Chad: “Yet without Anonymous, this blog probably wouldn’t exist.”

Really? You think Marty left the CoS and talked to the St Pete Times because of Anonymous? I don’t think you’ve been paying attention. Anonymous and their tactics (of broadly protesting and criticizing anything and everything that has to do with the philosophy of Scientology) are playing right into DM’s hands.

All DM and his people have to do is yell “religious persecution” and Anonymous has effectively helped the CoS take the attention off DM’s abuses and crimes.

If Anonymous wants to help, please tell them to focus on DM and his crimes … and stop the “all Scientology is evil and bad everywhere” campaign.

  2. L. Ron Hubbard said:

“And I believe that the freedom of the material which we know and understand is guaranteed only by a lightness of organization, a maximum of people, good training and good, reliable, sound relay of information.”

I think this says it all. The organization uses duress as a matter of course to enforce compliance, people have been leaving in droves, training has been corrupted by the arbitraries introduced with GAT and information relay consists of mega-events reminiscent of the Nuremburg rallies or bombastic self-serving publications dedicated to glorifying ‘The Leader’.

When these things are wrong, the results are rather predictable.

  3. Kind of makes you wonder if he ever really duplicated all of those books he supposedly “corrected”.

    Strategy? How about

“My purpose is to bring a barbarism out of the mud it thinks conceived it and to form here on Earth a civilization based on human understanding, not violence.

    That’s a big purpose. A broad field. A star-high goal.

But I think it’s your purpose, too.”
    — from How We Work on the Third Dynamic, by L. Ron Hubbard

  4. Marty,
I don’t think you could be any clearer about your intentions than with this post. Hopefully this will clear things up for those who are still wondering what you are doing and when you are going to storm the gates of INT.

I wish you well in your pursuit of applying Scientology to help others.

  5. Sounds like classic cloak and dagger actions. It says more about him than about anybody else. Wanting to know at all times what the percived enemy is up to. His cognictive filter has been twisted in the way it onley can recognize actions or utterances that are violent in nature with evil intent. All real communication lines dead and severed . In a matter of speaking he communicates onley with himself now a days. His world has shrunk to the dark innerfolds of his paranoid mind. His dissalusions of granduer make him think that he is still in control. The seed of self indulgence that had been sown in his soul with the discovarage of the false promisse of selffulfillment through the spotlights of Telivision has grown into a twisted tree with many brances. Onley this tree bears no leafs. This tree bears no seeds. It does not hold the promisse of future. Not for himself and not for his envirement

“”Behold for the Emperor wears no clothes ” as the fairytale tells us in “The Emperors new Clothes”

  6. It’s also quite clear that it would be impossible for one whose intention was to destroy by whatever means, anything good, that they would never conceive of another’s intentions being any different.

  7. Marty, If your goal is as simple as that, maybe you should support the dissemination of the materials on the Internet. Books –even produced on demand, one copy at a time– aren’t nearly as efficient as electronic files. Same goes for audio and video files, as you can see by checking what’s available on BitTorrent.

Most of the evil bludgeoning done to critics in the past by you, Mike and various shysters has been on the grounds of Intellectual Property infringement — including suing the Washington Post for a brief summary paraphrase of the OT III story. As if the word ‘Xenu’ were a protected mark. Huh?

The cult tried to claim not only copyright but trade secret infringement, and the judge laughed at them.

They might as well get used to the idea that copyright is no longer a viable concept. There’s enough stuff on Wikileaks to build a pretty complete Scientology library. And how is your MP3 library doing in general, BTW?

The only thing that will dig the subject out of the hole DM has dug will be the goodwill and decency of the people who purvey it to the public.

Ah, but ‘Scientologist’ is a collective service mark for members… bla bla….” Has DM sued you for calling yourself a Scientologist yet? He might get that crazy before he self-destructs.

  8. Marty,

Keep on with the course you have chosen. It must frustrate DM’s minions no end that the material they publish about you is shown again and again to be unsupportable.

You continue to show that you deserve the support of ethical beings. Your transparency stands in stark contrast to the church we once were a part of.

Let me know if there is anything I can do for you. I will send some suggestions by email.

  9. That pretty much says it Marty:

“To use Scientology to improve conditions by the best means we are individually equiped to do so with; and to help our fellows do the same.”

I don’t know about any one else but I got a BDF/N on that.

    Thanks :)

    • “To use Scientology to improve conditions by the best means we are individually equiped to do so with; and to help our fellows do the same.”
      :-) I did, too!

  11. Marty, Thanks for being there. The day I saw your videos was as big a day for me as the day I really knew what the Tech could do.

    Major light bulb moments!

It makes sense that DM is playing the tyrant’s game, only capable of imagining others operate from the same modus operandi™ of the Organization™ that is monopolizing the spiritual market™.

LRH makes a specific reference about that! —> “Poorly relayed, poorly communicated, monopolized or used exclusively for gain, it could be a very destructive thing.”

That doesn’t mean we can’t be organized and standard in application and delivery. That’s the purpose, isn’t it?

What good are expensive pompous buildings with empty course rooms? Or diluted, watered down products getting only part of the gain. What good are blinding million dollars laser light shows without the products of beings who can male their own fireworks in life?

It’s about delivery. Delivery! Application. Life. That’s all I was every interested in, and what so many good-hearted, devoted beings have given their all for. The goals of the real stuff that is Scientology.

I’m still expanding in a major way getting my being around the fact that YES, we can really HAVE it. What does that say for the Orgs that have been running the most gruesome “Must Have – Can’t Have” on public and staff for decades?

It is so obvious, more obvious by the day:

The current Regime™ is *terrified* of free and thinking beings! It’s that simple.

I have first hand experience of that, and observe it in the society and others.

Would such a controlling, oppressive, condemning management ever in a million or billion years give beings a way to FREE themselves?

But it would use the promise and imitation of freedom to entrap. Formidable.

It’s just mind-blowing (still!) that I am not the only one who had so many of the experiences now coming forth.

Thank you everyone here. I’m not sure how and what yet, but it will be right, and my dedication continues…simply to use and apply Scientology to improve Life.

I personally always found the game board Monopoly boring as hell.

  12. LRH: “…Scientology, well understood, is a very powerful thing. Well used, it can do a great deal for the social order and for the individual…”

Marty: “…use Scientology to improve conditions by the best means we are individually equipped to do so with; and to help our fellows do the same.”

You know Marty, I’m beginning to think we can really do this thing in an order of magnitude that would make LRH proud.

  13. ” To use Scientology to improve conditions by the best means we are individually equiped to do so with; and to help our fellows do the same.”

It was all I ever wanted to do in the first place, it’s what I have been doing, it is what I do now, and what I plan on continuing to do.

Thanks Marty for opening up the communication lines. Hat’s off to you and to the many good and helpful people who share this purpose.

  14. Margaret:
“Somehow, I also wouldn’t put this past actual members of Anonymous.”
As a man who won’t be around in this body over a decade, maybe two, I take personal offense to your lack of understanding of who the next guard will be when you and I are gone.
I don’t know what generation you’re from but I suspect it is from mine–boomers.
I have several under 30s I/T people employed and I can tell you that origins of Anonymous is nothing more than a younger generation upset by what they percieved as an intrusion of their ability to communicate freely on the Internet void of censorship by entities such as the church tried to impose.
(You might look at at it as part of Grade Zero being run on the third and fourth dynamic)
They hold the Internet as a bastion of free speech much the same as as our forefathers respected the individual’s rights through the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
The free conveyance of ideas on the Internet is very dear to them–almost sacred.
    (Are we not here?)
That the church originally employed censorship brings us the situation that now you have some of the group acting (sometimes) irrationality and in some cases there are dissaffected Scn public joining their protest. But all in all, irrespective of who is there, their cause is just:
To reform an organization that has a history of violating individual’s rights and has proven itself unable to reform itself.
It never would have started if the church had not been so pigheaded.
    Lay off of them.
They serve their purpose in their present state and are likely doing more and doing it more out front and with more dedication than you by casual comments in a blog posting.
Their upset can easily be handled by righting the wrongs, reforming, and by simple 2 way comm.
The basic movement is young and idealistic. As a Scientologist who knows that the shortcomings of Mankind can rise to greater heights, they are not your enemy but the future.
Cherish it and nurture it as that generation is your future too.

    • Dean,
Anonymous is our future? Or, they are an entire generation?

I appreciate that there are individuals in this anonymous thing that are well meaning and well intentioned. I appreciate that you’ve got a positive view of some of the things some of them have done.

      They aren’t my future.

    • Dean,
Free speech may be almost sacred to Anonymous, but some of the individuals involved certainly aren’t above pranks like DDoS attacks, endless black faxes and fake pizza orders. In fact, a 19-year-old who got caught was just sentenced to more than a year in prison after the cult whined and prodded the prosecution to make an example of him.

There are a few Anon jokers & degraders who would probably love to stir up some interest in a purported coup just for the lulz, same as they like to video local org executives making fools of themselves. It’s sort of like the radio guys from Montreal who called Sarah Palin pretending to be French President Sarkozy and got her going.

    • The enemy of my enemy is my friend, someone said. Right now the game many disparate groups, factions and individuals are playing is called Get Shorty. When that game is over this diverse set of players will go their different ways and start playing other games.

  15. Thought provoking

Thank you for sharing with us, such an apropos communication from Ron.

  16. Dean Thomas – right on.

As someone who has spoken to Anons in two cities and went to a protest with some for the first time two weeks ago, let me say these are young kids dedicated to upholding freedom, theirs and everybody else’s.

Like it or not, they have been a key part in bringing the crimes of Miscavology to the public attention and they continue to do so – just because they can. They give their time every month because they care for Mankind.

Try talking to them and asking them how and why they got involved – it should warm your heart.

Yes there are some ratbags in the ranks – that’s the lot of living on Planet Earth. But I’m proud that I was made an honorary member of Melbourne anonymous outside Mel. org last Sat week.

“More communication, not less is the answer” as a very smart man once said. :)

  17. Marty,

This was the best post you ever wrote.Thank you for that.

It is as simple as it is, point.

So we are free beings, and are only responsible to our own conscience and nobody else and we just use the tech to improve conditions and don’t have to report to anybody.
Wow ! For me this is a totally new concept, even I knew all the data, but was total effect to a total generality – Org ?, fellow scientologists ?, Management ?, Sea Org ? DM ? I can’t tell what it was, just like a dark cloud around oneself or a big hammer floating over the head – and it’s gone.
No more having to justify oneself for the life one is living. No more inval or evals about what is the greatest good, No more made wrong… no more….no more… no more….Wow !
We are free to use the tech the way Lrh wanted !
What an idiotic sheep I’ve been ! That’s a little bit tough to confront.
But I’m on board and you hear more from US in the future !

    Have a nice day

Could you please post this quote from an Lrh Ed where he says he’ll not be always around to save our day and he makes us a gift (the tech) and each one is responsible for it. Sorry I can’t find it when I google it.

    • LO: Along those lines of which you speak (“So we are free beings, and are only responsible to our own conscience and nobody else and we just use the tech to improve conditions and don’t have to report to anybody.”), I just read this post from the other great blog of an ex-Inter and these two lines jumped out from it, as did yours: “I have been trying to figure out when scientology changed so radically from the relatively small groups scattered around the world, doing co-audits, processing and getting processed, teaching a few classes on the basics and making people more aware, to what is out there today.

“I think the rank and file scientologist of the early to mid-1960′s were mainly interested in making themselves and their friends a little better, smarter, more honest and honorable, and yes… more powerful.” Written by John McMaster — Not!

      Ref: http://www.scientology-cult.com/john-mcmaster-not.html

This post is a great read and captures for me what Marty and all of you are rekindling here in this Independent movement….and yes it is a movement.

  18. “And I believe that the freedom of the material which we know and understand is guaranteed only by a lightness of organization, a maximum of people, good training and good, reliable, sound relay of information.”

This one sentence summarizes what our hopes and dreams were about when we first joined up[ as public and staff members…..when peels of laughter could be heard throughout the mission.

Thanks so much, Marty for rehabbing the joy for me with your posts and also from your loving and intelligent commenters!!

  19. This is a very important blog.

“Strategy? To use Scientology to improve conditions by the best means we are individually equiped to do so with; and to help our fellows do the same.”

I have this very clear since the beginning.
Since much before of going public.
    There´s no hidden agenda.
    No hidden intentions.
    No destructive actions.
    Sweet and light neither.

May this clarify the plain simple truth for all those who want to make it complex.

    It´s about improve. That´s it.

    Roberto Sánchez Núñez

  20. Can you please provide the actual source of the quote. Very good, but I need where I can find it directly, (tape, lecture, policy, book, etc…) I am passing stuff onto my family, but they always want to read it for themselves straight from LRH

  21. Great post Marthy!! :-D

  22. I’m with JLogan in rejecting idea that Anonymous are my future. To use the political vernacular you’re so fond of Marty, this is an anarchist group, tone level around the 1.5 band. Destroy, destroy, destroy.

Seems that there are two types drawn to you: the dedicated Scientologist disaffected with the CoS and those dedicated to the destruction of the CoS as a way to destroy Scientology itself.

So, then, we are like the Allied forces and Stalin’s battalions in ’45, both marching on Berlin, but destined to be facing off against one another one day soon.

    • Huck,
Gawd, you’re soooo serious about this game. Anonymous is largely comprised of college kids and young geeks who like to play pranks for the lulz. If you want to understand more about how they think, educate yourself: check out this important documentary.

  23. Marty;

Have been way to busy lately with work cycles. Seems my stats keep rising since I became an “Independent Scientologist”.

I want to give you a high five on this post. I remember back in the late 60′s while in and out of the old LA Org before big blue and the landing of the folks in white space suits, silver boots & orange hard hats. (Original Sea Org uniforms).

The LA ORG in the late 60′s was a blast and learning about LRH tech and getting student auditing & some coffee shop auditing kept me going for 10 years. Then I got crushed regged in ’82 by two guys who tried to lock me in a room until I paid for my bridge. After I told the two of them I would kill both of them on the spot if the door remained locked. The door instantly opened and I didn’t return for 25 years.

I look back at doing the full BASICS course at FLAG (2007-2008) and comparing this experience to the LA ORG days. IMHO, many senior staff at FLAG are way to serious….very little fun. I did however, enjoy my 18 months on course and I had a very competent supervisor, but some of his seniors were way too stressed out from my POV. Too many SO folks asking for IAS donations at the door as you left course. Constantly making you go to graduation and the Captains Sunday briefing while you were on course. The supervisors would leave the course room leaving you no choice but to go to the event. This experience left me not wanting to return to the course room.

Marty, LRH knows best when he stated, ““And I believe that the freedom of the material which we know and understand is guaranteed only by a lightness of organization, a maximum of people, good training and good, reliable, sound relay of information.

Somehow we need to bring back the good old days of Scientology.

  24. Concerned Citizen

I too find this a fantastic, fantastic post. I think that LRH quotes are a true treat for all of us and people who wonder and visit this blog can find out from the man himself. I keep learning so much from him, I just feel so elated that the Bridge is not lost to us because of DM. ( I was worried for a bit there) and that this group is here. I know I have gained 5 people on to this group since I discovered it. I don’t think they have written anything, but I know they are independents now and of the same mind I’m. (well, may they don’t all think the Church is salvageable as I do,)

I’ll keep working for as long as I can, and I’m very happy that Marty, Steve, Rebel, old auditor, etc are here. I read all their sites and blogs, and all the comments, I follow Jim Logan’s, WH, and others with interest. They are an important part of my day. ( I don’t always make it to all blogs every day) I just can’t tell you how good it feels to know someone has your back, that is so sane too.

So thank you and these kinds of posts are definitely needed and wanted.

  25. Amen, Marty. Love this.

I shared this with Marty already – but for the rest of my Independent friends you might like to hear this: I had a new friend recently who was having a really rough time. She just had a baby, the father ditched her, her family is out-of state and very abusive people she didn’t want anything to do with, new to the area, etc. She did not have many terminals. I attended the birth of her baby as her coach (which is how we met because I am a birth doula).

We became very good friends and I decided to help her in anyway I could. We talked about many things and she heard my entire story about Scientology and leaving the church. She had some of her own stories of dealing with corruption. She became interested in Dianetics. I got a friend of mine to start auditing her on Book 1 and she began reading my copy of the book. She has had some AMAZING wins and her life has been changed 180 degrees.

She is handling people better (specifically a slimy guy at work) that was causing her a lot of turmoil. She is not upset about her family that abused her anymore. She is living her life as a single Mom in a tough situation and is being a strong, determined mother with no sign of “victim” attitude at all. She is enjoying her beautiful baby boy.

She said to me “I think I’m cured!” and has been on a win for a couple of weeks with no pressure to go back in session. She is now bright – shiny every time I see her is excited about her future.

This is all that it is about. She got good clean Dianetics technology – no crush regging. No bullshit and she is a new woman! I couldn’t be happier to have helped her. This makes life worth living. To me this is what the Independent Movement is all about.

  26. Eldon,

This body no longer gets pimples and is all growed up, so what could I have in common with those lulzers at Anon?

I still haven’t seen you deny that your goal is the eradication of Scientology. I suspect I won’t.

    Also, clear: Anarchists.

    • Huck,
I guess I need to make that all-important distinction between:
      1. Scientology, the subject/philosophy/religion or whatever you want to call it, and
      2. Scientology® the convicted criminal organization that insists on its religious right to engage in extortion, harassment, medical malpractice and human trafficking.

Sure, I would be happy to see the latter eradicated. I haven’t seen you come up with anything specific about the “church” that’s worth salvaging. Can you?

Also, how do you think the former could possibly be eradicated? The Freezone has been out there doing whatever it does for more than 25 years.

      • Concerned Citizen

I haven’t seen you come up with anything specific about the “church” that’s worth salvaging. Can you? Yes I can.

How about the thousands of decent individuals who day in and day out give their all for an ideal of a better world!!! These people man the churches worldwide and are trapped in an insidious game, they do not have enough of the data we have to draw the right conclusions, their perceptions are invalidated and even penalized, their certainty is compromised. Therefore they don’t see what you and I see, they only see good honorable dedicated people trying their damndest, and a few people who are making things difficult, inside and out, and because of their decency they stick it out determined to make it happen in spite these roadblocks. How do I know? I was there, and it really is these people that keep the Church going, it is them that have kept it alive. They are worth salvaging, but they will not be salvaged by a bunch of kids screaming at them that they are deluded. It will achieve about the same result as me yelling at Anonymous that you are “all” bigots. In fact Marty’s actions are miles more effective than any previous action.

That said, I have come to appreciate the contribution anonymous makes to the cause, like with the Church, it is also a mistake to generalize this group. Most of us here understand that. Perhaps we can start by granting to each side that we are all concerned for the well being of people, and that both sides have rotten apples, but when it comes down to brass tacks there are good people on both sides of the game.

      • Concerned,
I have no doubt that the vast majority of staff members are well-intentioned and dedicated. But they are also way deluded if they imagine things will somehow mysteriously “go right” under the current regime and management system.

Scientology was set up by LRH as a “benign monarchy” (or a benevolent paramilitary dictatorship?) with himself as the ultimate authority, issuing arbitrary orders by telex. There’s very little inherent transparency or accountability. How do you envision reforming the virulent criminal enterprise Scientology progressively became over the past 30 years or so?

Marty has said he doesn’t want to stage a coup, but simply to connect independent Scientologists — in other words, to expand and maybe consolidate the existing Freezone. It may be disorganized, but at least it’s benign.

I’d say those staff members would ultimately be better off if the operation were shut down and liquidated, with the assets split up by trustees amongst they stakeholders like the Reed Slatkin and Bernie Madoff cases. That way, they would get a severance package with allowance for some exit counseling.

      • Concerned Citizen

        Dear Eldon,

I do not know how I can be clearer. If you are incapable of seeing my view point, due to differing perspectives may be, so be it.

As a person somewhat versed in Hubbard’s policy and it’s application, I do not see where the bening monarchy thing comes in.

You may see it that way, fine, I don’t and so we are both looking at a very diferent thing. I understand how you think but I don’t agree.

        So be it.

  27. Marty, OSA is casting its nets wide looking for someone to target as a threat. I have been contacted by “critics” or “journalists” I don’t know and have never heard of asking me where I see the future of CoS going. They run different scenarios by me to see if anything sticks. “Have you heard anything about Marty Rathbun trying to take over the church?” is a recurring question I get. I tell them to contact you directly about that. That usually ends the comm cycle. The other question begins as a conversation that is steered toward Big Pharma and/or Germany somehow secretly financing Anonymous or the critics in general. DM really thinks there is a hard point somewhere that issues money and orders. Sorry DM, there are no hard points, no secret Bob Minton’s, no Big Pharma paymaster and no Nazi Psychs bearing envelopes each week that contain $38.24. DM does not realize that things are organic, viral, and segmented. The only real point of agreement out here is that DM drove CoS off a cliff.

    • J. Swift,
Great to hear from you again — it has been a while since you have graced this board with your wisdom.

    • J. Swift,
The OSA idiots will be going nutz trying to crash Marty’s Christmas party or at least bug his house to see what conversations take place about insurrection.

Just for lulz, why don’t you or someone a bit less obvious see how much they’ll offer you to go in there wired and record the plot they think is taking place.

Excuse me for not taking this shit too seriously. It’s sounding more and more like a Michael Caine movie, or maybe a Gilbert & Sullivan operetta!
