the sociopath next door

Over the past three decades David Miscavige has done his best to reverse the practice of Scientology. That is, the further one moves up the Bridge in the church of Scientology the more zealous, tractable, solid, narrow-minded, and in most cases miserable one becomes.  That is not to say that people cannot attain higher Grades and Levels of spiritual state and understanding. It means that those gains are manipulated by deceit and conditioning and stress toward molding a person into a conscienceless, deployable agent for an ill-intentioned cult leader.  Being the consummate covertly hostile suppressive person, Miscavige has managed to do so while stage managing a false identity to his public that he is L Ron Hubbard’s guy.

Miscavige is very well described in the Science of Survival and in PTS/SP technical bulletins, policy letters and lectures.  In fact, the reason why Miscavige could manage his complete reversal of the subject of Scientology with the willing help of thousands of staff members and thousands of once-well-heeled public Scientologists is all explained rather neatly in these Hubbard materials.

Becoming disaffected with the “church” and Miscavige, leaving one’s life works in the “church” behind,  some people have tended to leave behind some of what they learned too.  Most commonly, first and foremost they leave behind PTS/SP technology.  It makes sense.  After all, it is the technology that protects good people against people who intend harm to others.   And so many good people’s experience within the church proved to them that PTS/SP technology is faulty, does not work, or in many cases is the cause of their own travails.

Most people I have encountered who have left the church went through decompression periods of their own. That is, a length of time to destimulate (settle spiritually) from the collective, suppressive acts that finally prompted them to cut ties with the cult while trying to put those experiences into some kind of perspective against their new experiences in the outside world.  The lengths of those periods have varied from months to years to decades.

During my own decompression period I did not want to read or hear anything about Scientology.  That included reading Hubbard books or listening to his lectures.  While I never doubted any gains I had achieved and used my training in living life, delving back into the subject brought about depressing emotions with the recognition that the entity that “owned” the technology was for all intents and purposes destroying it.  I have found that many people shared that resistance during their decompressions.

But I never lost the love of reading and learning and devoured many books on other subjects that interested me at any given time.  Some of them helped immensely in giving perspective in evaluating my life, including my then twenty seven year experience in and with Scientology.  Some books validated and enhanced understandings I had attained from studying Hubbard. I have shared some of those books in the Recommended Reading section of this blog – see the subject bar on the home page of Moving On Up A Little Higher.

I am adding to that list a remarkable book that I just finished, The Sociopath Next Door by Martha Stout.  I am adding it because I think it might do quite a lot of good for a lot of people who left the church of Scientology.  Not only for those not wanting to review any Scientology material, but for anyone who has encountered David Miscavige or his minions dutifully carrying out his directives.

Stout is a clinical psychologist who specialized for twenty-five years in helping the victims of sociopaths.   The first half of her book shares her real life observations about sociopaths and the effects they have upon social personalities.  Her observations are remarkably parallel to Hubbard’s description of the Suppressive Person.   Note, modern accepted characteristics of the sociopath very closely align with Hubbard’s descriptions of the emotional tone level of Covert Hostility and of the Suppressive Person.  This is so much the case that I have taken to using the terms “suppressive person” and “sociopath” interchangeably.

But, Stout’s first and foremost marker for the sociopath is more complementary of Hubbard’s work than it is duplicative.  Per Stout, the sociopath first and foremost lacks conscience.  It is a very useful and workable observation she shares.

Stout’s second chapter, ice people: the sociopaths, provides an actual case history that, but for career choice and resulting milieu of operation, could serve as the biography of David Miscavige.

Later in the book Stout gives another common denominator of sociopaths that again insightfully adds to one’s arsenal against being ruined by one, the pity play:

The most reliable sign, the most universal behavior of unscrupulous people is not directed, as one might imagine, at our fearfulness. It is, perversely, an appeal to our sympathy.

If you have followed this blog for long, you will know that I have several times wrote of Miscavige’s unnatural ability to paint himself as a victim.  As Stout notes, when a true sociopath is about to get caught out, he or she can very convincingly garner sympathy to divert attention from self.   Miscavige’s ability on that score has become institutionalized.  Virtually all International Association of Scientologist promo and briefings over the past two decades are outright fraudulent, falsely painting pictures of persecution against the cult.  Another example, the folks who have used 24/7/365 surveillance on my wife and me, who have overtly harassed us for 180 odd days running, with straight faces convince a clueless magistrate they must arrest me to protect them.

Stout recognizes the potential for suppressive/sociopathic groups, particularly “religious” ones.  Her description of one “church” sounds hauntingly like what has become of the conscienceless radical corporate church of Scientology:

As an illustration, one can cite the Creativity Movement, a militantly anti-Semitic and anti-Christian group formerly known as the World Church of the Creator, which is a religion founded on the love of the “White Race” and the prescribed hatred of everyone else. Within this doctrine, everyone who is not “White” is by definition a member of one of the “mud races.”  The central moral precept of the Creativity Movement is expressed as follows: “What is good for the White Race is the highest virtue; what is bad for the White Race is the ultimate sin.”   Unsurprisingly, the long-term goal of the Creativity Movement is to organize the “White Race” to achieve world domination.

The conscienceless organization, justifying any means by its alleged assistance toward an end, committing any crime against another person without remorse as long as it can be rationalized as forwarding the group’s power.

Perhaps most importantly, Stout describes how good, intelligent people wind up doing the bidding of a sociopath.

Excerpt:

Why are conscience-bound human beings so blind? And why are they so hesitant to defend themselves, and the ideals and people they care about, from the minority of human beings who possess no conscience at all?  A large part of the answer has to do with the emotion and thought processes that occur in us when we are confronted with sociopathy.  We are afraid, and our sense of reality suffers.  We think we are imagining things, or exaggerating, or that we ourselves are somehow responsible for the sociopath’s behavior.

It goes deeper when it comes to an organization emphasizing the importance of hierarchy and authority. Along the way she gives probably the best sum up and analysis I have read of the Stanley Milgram experiments on how authority can trump conscience.

While the last 1/3 or so of Stout’s book meanders down a sometimes painful path of speculations about possible genetic sources for sociopathy, it still manages to impart useful observations.   It was useful for me in this respect, I was able to recognize that despite Stout’s wonderful contributions (and clearly unintended validation of Hubbard’s work) modern mental health practitioners, regardless of their evolutionary progress over the past four decades, are still shackled by their inability to perceive or unwillingness to credit the spirit or soul.

Just because one is out from under the influence of the cult run by the sociopath/suppressive person of all sociopaths/suppressive persons is no reason not to read this book and hopefully recount, and maybe even re-study your Science of Survival and PTS/SP pack.  Stout, as Hubbard did forty-five years ago, recognizes that our inability to properly identify sociopaths and prevent the havoc they wreak is one of the greatest threats to humankind.

  2. This is a wonderful and timely piece, very applicable not only to the COS, but to ourselves in our world at large.

Yours and Les’ ability to just keep on helping people, rather than stooping to engage with the persistent, sociopathic invitations to do otherwise, bedazzles me.

  4. Good job Marty! I liked this post and in life have found much of the data I learned (all three times!) on that course invaluable. A killer reference for me was always PAB 13 (Professional Auditor’s Bulletin), Nov.1953, “On Human Behavior”.
Another great tape for those that were slaughtered in the chair is “Briefing to Review Auditors”. Tells the story some may need to hear.
DM is a piece of work, for sure. Old Jesse should have taken care of him when the had the chance!
Also, really enjoyed yesterdays clarification on “independent”. Perfect.
    Thanks.

  5. Marty your post nears perfection.

  6. Very good post. Very real to me about shying away from even LRH’s materials during decompression. Recovering nicely now, thank you.

  7. one of those who see

Marty, thank you for this. I love your ability to differentiate and your lack of “thought stopping.” That “Psychiatry Kills” has not stopped you from looking into what a Psychologist has written that may have merit. This is true freedom. LRH never said “don’t read this or don’t look there.” Never. Another perversion by the Church.
One of the precepts of The Way to Happiness is “Set a Good Example.” I found this is one of the best ways to disseminate Scientology, You are consistently setting a good example as a trained OT.
In one of my comments on the last post I ended with something like this: Eyes open Sir. Thinking for my self Sir. Confront of evil…working on it. I will be educating myself more on this subject. Definitely need more hatting. Because I would not do evil things, I know I tend to disbelieve that others (albeit very few) do. I think this is a fairly common phenomenon which is how genocides like Nazi Germany take place.
I am having a win on realizing that in this area – I know I don’t know and need to get hatting to attain certainty.
Boy is your Blog aptly named!

  8. Marty, It is succoring to wake up in the morning, log in to my system and read the blog and realize that positively I also did leave behind technology such as PTS/SP. I had not quite realized that, but I’m glad you pointed that out. Decompressing is quite something, which I’m still doing and its been 10 + years since I left, so you pointing that out is a real blessing.

  9. martyrathbun09

Great to hear from you Sergio. Hope you are doing well.

  10. martyrathbun09

Not Know is way up there on the Know to Mystery scale.

  11. Very true. Reminds me of the maxim that one can not be the adverse affect of something you are “hatted” (trained) on. I’ve taken the time to study about sociopaths, cults and a host of other subjects, which has really broadened my understanding, knowledge and strength.

Thanks for your recommended reading, Marty.

Thank you Amy. You may recall that aside from a week of mega decompression in 08 that we spent some time reviewing this very subject. You and Mat helped me a lot in moving toward putting this all into perspective

  13. There was a tape I found once at Int Archives by LRH on the SHSBC and paraphrased LRH said that you will soon find that the SHSBC is removed from the lineup, especially grade I materials because grade one (Problems processing) helps detect and handle SPs on the pcs lines. From what I understand, the SHSBC is just about a thing of the past.

I am wondering how he sabotaged the rest of the problems processing.

  15. I look forward to reading this book and I agree that “suppressive person” and “sociopath” are interchangeable. The book I read, when running into a real life sociopath, was Tim Field’s “Bully in Sight – How to predict, resist, challenge and combat workplace bullying”, especially the information on the Serial Bully. When finally exposed, this person blew and several areas disenturbulated.

This blog has been the perfect forum to connect the dots back to who is destroying Scientology. I love Mike’s hilarious descriptions of Miscavige’s mind-set of wrong target and non-sequitur. He is such a schmuck, and the fact that he doesn’t know this makes me laugh even harder.

It’s a good tactic. Make it appear that Marty is so dangerous to the environment thus necessitating more funds to the IAS.

  17. Hey Marty, Thought I’d comment on the fact that one of the products of knowing Scientology — since Scientology is composed of the senior data of life — is “knowing how to know.” LRH even gave this as an early (and still correct) definition of Scientology. With an education in Scientology it becomes fun and a snap! to read any book at all and spot what bits are true, and even to assign relative importance to the various data cited by the author. What one gains from such an exercise in learning is new and deeper perspectives and such always enriches one’s own viewpoint and brings greater spiritual strength. These facts also help to expose the High Priests of the DM(TM) Brand camp who proclaim with the greatest asininity that no viewpoint has any merit unless the initials are “D.M.” or sometimes (though seldom now) “L.R.H.” This kind of fixed idea has a name: intolerance. And the only viewpoint under the sun, moon, and stars that truly has a worthless value, is the viewpoint of intolerance.

  18. That was one of the most fun weeks of my life. I think Mat feels the same.

  19. Your humble servant

Good post, Marty. It’s not real to most people that some of us are without consciences, cunning, conniving, ruthless and intentionally destructive. They have seen famous examples of it. They still cannot believe it. Thus, they vacillate. As Yeats wrote many years ago, “”The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity.” I realized that D.M. character was a hard core suppressive person/psychopath many months ago when I learned he (1) beats his staff (2) locks up and humiliates top executives (3) engages in constant invalidation and general suppression of those around him (4) alters tech (5) pretends to case supervise without qualifications (6) engages in witch hunts (7) lies, (8) steals money, (9) makes others guilty of their own overts (harmful acts), whether real or imagined, (10) has no overts of his own and cannot be audited.

  20. Hi Marty !
The way you express your thought on this marvelous blog is such remarkable. Cannot thank you enough for all the realisation i have made!
This is so real and true for me.
    Thank you so much !

BTW…. DM, this is an example what life is….How about getting a coach to train SO rpfers so they could jump the fence ?

  21. HCO BULLETIN OF 28 MAY 1960
    BY THEIR ACTIONS ……
“By their actions you shall know them, whether bad or good, whether on another side or ours.
And what in their actions gives us the keenest insight? Their ability to help.
Some think that help cannot be done. Shun them. Some think that help is always an effort to betray. Process them for here you have the criminals of Earth.
Some people cannot help. They can only injure and destroy. And if in the name of help they only injure and destroy then know them carefully for they are criminals.
What is a criminal? One who thinks help cannot be on any dynamic or uses help on anyone to injure and destroy.
Who are these men with covert ways who bring Earth its pain? They are the men who cannot help. Who are the women who must be helped but who can only maim?
They say, these men and women, that they’ll help and then they make a thorough shambles of it all.
From where did Earth conceive her traps and aspects that are grim? Earth would be a lovely place if all men helped to help, not to destroy.
Think heavily on this point. Judge men from what they think of help. Judge
women too and find the good ones from the bad.
The good can help. The bad will not or if they do, they “help” only to betray.
The good of Earth comes from above the point of make and break where help is help and honestly. The pain of Earth comes from the tones where help does not exist or where it’s used to pull us into agony.
Know your friends. It’s strange that those who argue with us against our goals and Scientology cannot conceive of honest help. Discuss help with them and you’ll find their tone and whether they are worth a lot as friends.
This is the test that you can use to separate the good from bad and then clear-eyed begin to make a world in which all life can live.”
    L. RON HUBBARD

Miscavige is no “white hat” needing protection from lesser beings.
By his actions we know him. And his actions are:
    Forcing abortions
    Invalidating, carping criticism
Glorification of MEST and ridicule of theta
    Tearing apart families
    Cutting Comm lines
Invalidating tech and tech terminals while only pretending certification
Altering tech to demean, degrad, overrun and ruin theta
    Physically beating his staff
Invalidating his staff into blind obedience
    Taking money for no exchange
Falsefying statistics to cover up criminal negligance
His idea of help is to implant you into obedience

All efforts to bring this criminal to justice within the church have failed.

Will signing the petition to have the FEDs investigate his crimes actually accomplish anything? We won’t know until we try, will we? And if we don’t give it our best shot…then are we guilty of an overt of omission? Answer for yourself, but at least give it some consideration.
Personally, I’ve come to the conclusion that Miscavige will try and destroy the subject as well as his own cult before he relinquishes his ill-gotten gains.

  22. Marty,

Once again, thank you for this. This blog is an incredible service.

Are those dingbats still hanging out in front of your house and harrassing you and Mosey?

  23. Theo Sismanides

Marty I didn’t have the time to read all of your post. But what I can say is that we are getting more and more sane USING ALL KINDS of Sources while Miscavige is getting more and more insane USING “SCIENTOLOGY” as he likes to call it! Let’s splurge on it. We are on a roll.

Oh and a reminder guys on whoever didn’t vote. we are approaching 2.500 http://wh.gov/4Os

  24. “By their actions you shall know them, whether bad or good, whether on another side or ours.”

Mat 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

  25. I always had the firm conviction that if the church could really get the SP/PTS data out into society and really spread it, we could really help society. It seemed the most needed and wanted tech that we had, and was a perfect gradient for day to day living on all dynamics.
I could never see why it wasn’t widely spread by the church! Why was I so wrong?
Of course now it’s all too obvious. Duh!

  26. …and in regards to the sociopath it is frustrating and tiring because for the endless of times it goes on and on unchecked and today you and a handful of men in our lifetime have the insight to point him out and do something about it.

  27. Tony DePhillips

    Geat post Marty.
It blows me away how you always seem to hit on a right item.
I was just thinking the other day how much LRH tech I use throughout my day. I have told others this and have heard that “you can get that other places too.” Maybe you can, maybe you can’t, I’m not sure because I haven’t studied a bunch of other stuff. I do know that LRH compiled tons of useable idea in an easy to understand format.
I don’t agree with everything I have read of his but these are some of the things that I still find useful:
    – Auditing tech. I don’t think you can find this elsewhere.
    – ARC triangle
    – the comm cycle
    -tech on anti social personalities
-data on the reactive mind and when people are dramatizing it
    -exchange and keeping it in.
    -Personal integrity and personal ethics.
-Data on the spirit and that man is basically good.
Also I was reading the Help reference on your blog that Les and someone else posted recently and got very keyed out reading it. It brought back some memories of the times I read LRH and had huge cognitions.
After all is said and done, whether LRH was a beast or just human, I find a lot of value in his writings and auditing tech.
I appreciate what you continue to do Marty. It takes a lot of strength to continue to be a stable datum in this huge confusion that this 3-d has found itself. I for one appreciate all that you do.

  28. Steve,
The 5th ACC had a drill called Universe Processing where one was enabled to view from any point. The key datum being from the Factors that space is created by assuming a point from which to view and extending out points to view. Tolerance of any and all viewpoints gives one unlimited space. Intolerance shrinks a being back to an ‘only one’ status and with that collapsing of space (the intolerance of a viewpoint) a solidity comes about and eventually you get a MEST object. The ability of life/theta to view from all sorts of different points and shift and change is one of the funnest parts of being. It IS being, since beingness is assuming a viewpoint and extending points to view.

  29. “while stage managing a false identity to his public that he is L Ron Hubbard’s guy.”
If anyone is any doubt as to how this is done just check out the Official Cult Website:
(not responsible for any damage done to any electrical devices by virtue of any loss of bodily fluid including vomit while reading the following):
    “L. RON HUBBARD’S TRUSTED FRIEND
In 1983, L. Ron Hubbard described a heroic Church executive who cleaned the ranks of rogue staff attempting to seize control of Scientology while Mr. Hubbard was engaged in intensive research and absent from the Church. As Mr. Hubbard himself phrased it:
“So forgive me for not managing the Church when it almost fell into hostile hands.  It all came out all right.  Why? Because real Scientologists made sure it did.  My faith was justified.”
That real Scientologist L. Ron Hubbard spoke of was David Miscavige.
In light of what had nearly transpired, L. Ron Hubbard requested a corporate reorganization of the Church designed to ensure the Church would not fall into hostile hands and the religion could move on into perpetuity—always remaining true to its Source teachings.  To that end, L. Ron Hubbard saw to the formation of Religious Technology Center to hold the Scientology and Dianetics trademarks and to preserve, maintain and protect the Scientology religion. He appointed Mr. Miscavige a Trustee of that Church organization.
To oversee his personal affairs for the remainder of his life, L. Ron Hubbard also appointed David Miscavige as chairman of the organization charged with handling those matters.
“Trust and friendship are things forged in fire and pounded out on the anvil of life. We have been through a lot together. I trust you as you trust me.”
—L. Ron Hubbard to David Miscavige”
Decompressing? You’re damned right I’m decompressing!!!
F&*@%**ing 1.1 snake!!!!!!!!!! (pardon the unladylike language)

  30. Where’s the COB posting order Davey master of bullshit?!
If it isn’t written it isn’t true!!!!!!!!!

  31. Incidentally Sarge told me that quite contrary to the lies you churn out about your friendship with him, LRH was onto you. We all are now aren’t we?

  32. Destroying Scientology and using LRH’s good name to do it. Enjoy the IAS Event Davey, we’ll be waiting.

  33. Marty,
    Thanks for this.
You have no idea how it feels to know that other people really get what you’ve been through and understand.
Yes we are high toned. Yes we are tough. But it hurts like hell at times and there is a long, hard process of recovery to get through.
At least that’s the way it has been for me.

  34. I have never heard of the Creativity Movement but went to their website (for a few minutes). It broadened my understanding of what the general public today likely thinks of Scientology/the Church of Scientology/Scientologists/L. Ron Hubbard. If that is a datum of comparable magnitude in the mind of the public, as it may well be, DM has caused untold harm to all of the above. Looking at the Creativity Movement’s website pounded that home in a new unit of time. Sheeesh! What a mess.

  35. Jim — How are you doing typing upside down? Looking forward to a full report…

  36. +1 Tony

  37. Excellent point SR. Several bright people recommended this be a thrust of the Church’s presentation of itself into the world. Of course, no chance….

  38. Sam,

And for those may not know the specifics of this, that last quote is taken from a declaration written by Miscavige hired lawyers and forwarded to LRH for him to sign during the probate case in Riverside. Nibs was seeking to force him to appear in court or have LRH declared dead and seize his estate. It was a ploy to get him to appear so he could be served in many other civil suits and by the government. Miscavige was the head of Special Project, charged with creating a safe environment for LRH (something that DOESNT appear on his hagiography — as that produce he most definitely did NOT accomplish, and as Marty can explain, he in fact prevented that from being achieved). It was his job to deal with this attack on LRH. This declaration was to prove to the court that Miscavige and the laweyers he had hired to prevent LRH from being ordered into court or declared dead, were in fact trusted by LRH to deal with his affairs. He had no choice.

And as for the first quote, any half way intelligent person can read this and see LRH was talking about many people — and somehow, by not so slick redefinition — it becomes ONE person, and THAT person was David Miscavige. Projectile vomit at the audacity of POB to have things like this published about him. (And believe me — HE wrote that, nobody else would dare as when it eventually blows up as everyone knows it will, nobody wants to be the one that did it).

  39. Sam
They have a master-forger working on that as we speak. I’m sure that posting order will be out just in time for the IAS reg-fest.
Oh my God, David Miscavige IS God.

Thanks for the heads up on the vomit. It was useful.

  41. And a certain person {name not metioned} saw a picture of the 3 of you during that week having what looked like one of the most outrageous times in eternity and wished he {HINT} could have been there too! 🙂 But I couldn’t for some reason. Marty is right though about many things here, including how people feel worse the more church training and auditing they get, a normal decompression period, and a couple of other things. I always read Marty’s blog because I even thought he was a nice guy when he was in the church and I “diskliked” the church. I guess I must like them now. But I would never re-join. You look great Amy. That hairstyle is for you. 🙂 Blonde, sexy, sharp, intelligent. Right on!

  42. Hey Jimbo,
I like that. Must get around to listening to the 5th ACC now.
It hit me reading your quote that it confirms total ARC would vanish all physical forms of existence. Got to have a game though, but the ability to have or not have a tolerance of viewpoint rather than it being on a downward spiral auto would be a great process – sign me up!

  43. Tony Dephillips

Sam you can sure be scary when you want to be.
The idea of you “waiting for me” is something I wouldn’t want to experience. 🙂

  44. I worked in IDB with Sergio Mora …

  45. Mike, thank you for clarifying this. I always thought the “hostile takeover” was by Bill Franks, as he claimed at the 1981 Mission Holder’s Conference at Flag that he had been held at gunpoint, and the next day Annie Taskett? admitted publicly at that same conference that Bill Franks was, in fact, held at gunpoint. My deduction was that he, Bill Franks, was attempting some sort of take-over, along with his cohort at the time, Dean Stokes, Mission Holder of the Dallas Mission. I did not know the details on Nibs attempting a take-over in 1983, although I knew he had tried to grab LRH’s Estate by saying LRH was dead. Norman Starkey gave a talk at that same Mission Holder’s Conference about “Mission All Clear”, the effort to clear LRH of all lawsuits. He did not say that David Miscavige was in charge, although that could have happened at a later time. The apparency was that he, Norman Starkey, was in charge of that unit. However, DM did brag about “busting” Mary Sue Hubbard, at that same conference, which I thought was the biggest outpoint of all, and made me incredulous that such a thing could be occurring. Too bad I hadn’t done my Data Series Evaluator’s Course back then. I would have done a lot more “string pulling”. Instead I just parked all this data in a bin marked “Wow, where does this stuff go in the scheme of things?” It was not until researching the internet in 2007 that I discovered where all this data fit. It became very apparent that the REAL takeover was done by David Miscavige.
I can’t wait for you or Marty or both, as a collaboration, to publish a time-line of these events. It is very confusing, as each of us who were there, has bits and pieces of data; an overall picture of events in their proper sequence would be wonderful!
    Great data!
    Catherine von Ach

  46. Marty, I can’t help but smile at the irony of the title of this book you are recommending: “The Sociopath Next Door”. In the light that David Miscavige had the so called “Squirrel Busters” rent a place down the street (or in the cul-de-sac) to harrass you, daily, right in front of your house, I thought that was what you were referring to with the title of your post. In your case, it is the sociopath, through his cohorts, at the edge of your driveway! and living almost next door, literally! Hopefully the siege is over; you have withstood your own Alamo, and come out on top! Your persistence under such conditions is amazing! You and Mosey deserve much needed peace and quiet.

  47. Marty,
Thanks for this commentary. As usual you have highlighted a key point here. We have always kept our comm lines wide open despite the strong encouragement to “Close Ranks” with those in the group as our only comm lines. For example, we had many friends who were classicly trained in psychology who remain loyal friends to this day. Yet there was always pressure from org terminals to cut comm with “those people”. The truth is that many in that profession ended up there because they were social, friendly people who CARED for others and wanted to help. Unfortunately, the courses available to most (in the universities) are fraught with false data and as you highlighted, the deadly false datum: belief that man comes from a chemical soup, with no spirit or soul.
I think the most important message from your last couple of posts is to look, don’t listen, and to use obnosis – see what is in front of you, not what you would like there to be in front of you. Evaluate everything in a new unit of time, with all of your faculties to hand, rather than blind faith and stupidity due to lack of present time analysis. I recently did a university course on applied ethics, and given that it was a basic freshman course, it was full of young kids making their way in the uni program. The teacher had a wonderful way of handling the discussions, which did get quite lively, but at the end of the day, there were no wrong answers, only perhaps answers that had not considered some point or another – i.e. needed more data to be a “considered approach”. All she (the professor) wanted to see was that the kids were **thinking for themselves**. That was her prime goal in the class, and it was a very good thing to see.

Jim, you point out an extremely essential piece of data (and one that makes life not only more enjoyable, but unlimited in potential of thought and creativity). My intention is not to be negative when I mention that from the beginning of my involvement in Scientology in 1970, the tolerance of a variety of viewpoints was not only not encouraged, but definately NOT allowed (one received a ton of shit if one even had a different viewpoint from one’s seniors about what post one desired to do). And this dictatorial and oppressive attitude just got worse during the Miscavige years. The positive though, as I’ve mentioned a number of times, is that with an independant movement in Scientology, you and I and others can point out the above data that we can NOW agree to apply on the third dynamic. So, thank you for doing that.

This is a superb essay. I get a lot out of the books you have recommended. Every single one of them.
Another of my favorite “hobbies” is the study of psychological warfare, the only weapon of war that it is legal for anybody (individual or government) to use against anybody else, subject only to the limitations of laws against libel and slander during times of peace. Here is THE textbook on psychological warfare, fortunately in paperback. http://www.amazon.com/Psychological-Warfare-International-propaganda-communications/dp/040504755X

One has to have an understanding Popular Culture and Modern Culture to be effective is using Propaganda. It has to RELATE to the culture. Because Miscavige lives in his own fairy tale bubble devoid of reality, he does not relate to modern culture. Hence his Ops fail like dead balloons.
Squirrel Buster Program ! John Allender visit with head cameras !
The laughing stock of the entire Internet…..

The bond of commitment and trust between leaders and followers is what Clausewitz would call the center of gravity, the target that, once overthrown, destroys the enemy. There are numerous examples in history on this.

Once you drive a wedge of distrust between leaders and followers, that is the end of the organization. It is this one datum that made me understand why Miscavige pursues you with such vengeance, why he creates site after site with black propaganda against you and why he uses 30+ forged hushmail addresses in a feeble attempt to send Indies and others to the fake websites……

Tony, agree with all that you say here, especially about those essential areas of knowledge that we have gotten from LRH’s works. Ron had his flaws and outpoints, as EVERY one of us has, but when you evaluate a genius, as he certainly was, though one should not ignore or lie about his flaws, I think it is wise and true to put the MOST emphasis on his products of genius and what they mean to mankind. (Just as we should not ignore Thomas Jefferson’s or Thomas Edison’s faults or blind spots, while also recognizing the long lasting products of his genius)

  51. Joe Pendleton

Sam, you bring up some very important points here. At the same time, I don’t think it can be denied that LRH had a close relationship with Miscavige for a number of years and must have trusted him as he accepted Miscavige’s handling (mis – handling) of his communication. Frankly, I give Ron a pass on this, as from what I’ve read, he was in bad shape physically and mentally his last 6 or 7 years. From all I know, there was never ANY comm from Ron appointing Miscavige as his eventual successor. I’ve done the PTS/SP course a couple of times and studied the data on the Levels and the BC, and I think it is essential information for living as long and as happy a life as one can. I do think that one of the neglected parts of this area was how a JUNIOR deals with wacko and suppressive SENIORS. Of course, many high ranking SO execs have been declated SPs over the decades (when THEIR seniors became “disenchanted” with them), but when you have someone ABOVE you on the org board (and Miscavige is on the top of the Org Board now),that is suppressive or sociopathic, there is very little one is ALLOWED to communicate about this situation. Yes, one can write reports per policy (and to whom would one in the COS write to about Miscavige?), but the WEIGHT of policy is to protect the “power.” Just try pointing out the suppressive characteristics of a “white hat” in the COS and see what happens to you (being accused of being critical and manifesting OWs is the first and mildest blowback). I just think it was “un – doable” for LRH or any leader of a movement to point out how folks should handle THEIR leaders in that movement when insanity is manifested (especially when it is THE leader of the movement as Miscavige is of the COS). Once again, one of the positives of an Independant Scientology Movement – there IS no one big time leader to be the effect of.

  52. The Creativity Movement is 1.5

    DM’s cult is 1.1

  53. He appointed Mr. Miscavige a Trustee of that Church organization.

Hmm … nothing about “COB”, “Spiritual Leader”, nor any ‘single’ person running the Show.

  54. Miscavige was the head of Special Project, charged with creating a safe environment for LRH (something that DOESNT appear on his hagiography — as that product he most definitely did NOT accomplish, and as Marty can explain, he in fact prevented that from being achieved).

Sounds like the possibility existed that DM’s plan to take over of the Church might have been hatched some time before LRH passed away.

  55. Joe Pendleton

I may not have used the best word when i said “un-doable” in my above post. What I was referring to was the same situation with Kings in the history of Earth. Kings (pretty much ALL of them) would never even acknowledge the POSSIBILITY of the validity that their reign should be or could be cut short by others (not even aristocrats, much less the people/peasants). Even well into the 20th century, any attempt to question the validity of the royal rule was labeled “communistic” or some such. Thomas Jefferson’s and Tom Paine’s writing were EXTREMELY unpopular with these fellows. The King simply could never even agree that “A king” could be questioned (of course this didn’t stop some men from killing the king occasionally and then proclaiming THEMSELF the King and then using the New Testament as a justification – as it says that God himself chooses and empowers Kings). Scientology policy simply never dealt with the turnover of leadership of the church nor how a bad leader of the WHOLE church should be dealt with nor whom should deal with him. (yeah, yeah, I know there’s a website that has a whole convuluted flow chart of how LRH supposedly wanted this all handled, but I’ve never seen any straight forward policy letters on this available to actuall staff in the COS).

  56. Marty, Excellent post. I am especially impressed by your ability to broaden out a subject embracing many different viewpoints. This creates a healthy interactive environment.
I shall read this book. I have already checked out the author and she is very well qualified.

After I read the following line from your post –
‘the minority of human beings who possess no conscience at all.” –
I thought of Mr. Miscavige as similar to Rasputin 1869-1916.
Known as the “mad monk” he is the one who seduced the Tsar’s wife
and was a player is the downfall of Russia before the revolution.

“Attaining divine grace through sin seems to have been one of the central secret doctrines which Rasputin preached to (and practiced with) his inner circle of society ladies.”

In terms of Mr. Miscavige, he is attempting to reach the state of OT by punishing all of those around him. Also, Rasputin was a heavy drinker and engaged in many sexual meanderings. I also understand that Mr. Miscavige sometimes surrounds himself with ladies.
Rasputin met a sad end when he was thrown into the river.

I think Rasputin qualified as a sociopath as per the definition in the book.

    Much loving-kindness,
    GMW

  57. “Most people I have encountered who have left the church went through decompression periods of their own. That is, a length of time to destimulate”

In 1988, I disconnected from the sociopath Mr. Miscavige. After a period of no reading for about three months, during the first stages of decompression, I was energetically and suddenly inspired to read the following:

    – St. Francis of Assisi, Life story and “Ode to sister moon and brother sun.”
    – St Augustine of Hippo, City of God, cover to cover many times.
    – The life of Pope John Paul II and the popular film
    – What the Buddha Taught by Walpola Rahula.

I did not know that I met a real sociopath at the time in 1988.
It has now been over 22 years.

    Much loving-kindness,
    GMW

  58. PTS/SP tech seems to only be applied relative to the CofS. A person doesn’t want to do something or has a disagreement, they are declared PTS or declared a SP. So there are people who are supposedly SPs who are successful in life, and are contributing members of the community. It is a tool of oppression. But, this tech is very valuable, when understood and used correctly. Someone who doesn’t like you, the jerk, the asshole are not likely SPs. They may be just be having a bad day, misunderstood something or are struggling with some personal horror. But there are sociopaths in the world. I’ve run into a few who created havoc in my life until I fell back on what I learned to effectively deal with them. The greatest harmful effect of the CoS is that personal determination and judgement is
    suspended by it’s members.

Shorty is dead meat. Smells like a Pygmy Pig Roast.

    Gimme that one day!

    One day!

    cuz there is no fight.
    Gimme that one day!

  64. +1 So nice to see you here again. 😀

  65. one of those who see

Love the lyrics!!! Did Chris do the music?

  66. He’s more like Sociopath-etic.

He has been laid bare for society to see. The Media, the various anon groups, this blog and others so dedicated, the bad press and PR, the crashing stats, the defections, the increasing ranks in the independent field….all point to DM as a total failure across the board, Chairman.

I am sensing the day when we wont even mention his name anymore because we will be too busy moving up the OT levels and the Grades, doing what LRH hoped we would do.

True, the abuses continue, but they will always continue as long as he is there, and even after he drops his meatbody in the dirt, someone else molded after him will carry on with the altered tech.

We just need to flourish and prosper. And we are. He knows it. It drives him wild. LRH is all of us and we are LRH.

    I AM LRH!

Damn, this wine is the best.

  67. Sam, in one of his brilliant articles “Why Propaganda Trumps Truth” Paul Craig Roberts (former Assistant to the US Treasury Secretary, now whistelblower) has dug up a quote from a sociopath himself:
    Adolf Hitler in “Mein Kampf”:
““In the simplicity of their minds, people more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have such impudence. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and continue to think that there may be some other explanation.”
Roberts continues: “What the sociologists and Hitler are telling us is that by the time facts become clear, people are emotionally wedded to the beliefs planted by the propaganda and find it a wrenching experience to free themselves. It is more comfortable, instead, to denounce the truth-tellers than the liars whom the truth-tellers expose. ”
    http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article23498.htm

I think, this is a factor we have do consider and deal with.
We are doing the right thing, we make people look so that they can find out where they are, what kind of group they are connected to, what is going on in this group, really. More and more people are moving out of this condition of confusion.

  68. Hi Steve,

Right. So it follows that a Scientologist would be “One who knows how to know”.

I seem to recall LRH referring to Albert Einstein as “Albert Blindstein in the Student Hat materials. And what do you know, scientists have just discovered particles that travel faster than light:

    http://news.sciencemag.org/sciencenow/2011/09/neutrinos-travel-faster-than-lig.html

Your comment is also interesting in the light of an Israeli scientist winning the Nobel Prize for discovering a new form of matter that appears to defy the “laws of physics”. This man was ostracized by the scientific community for years because others were blinded by intolerance.

  69. Hi Marty,
So glad you recommended “The Sociopath Next Door.” I read it and it helped me as well and while reading it I was struck by the parallels between the sociopath and suppressive person tech.
    Thank you for your post.

  70. Okay Chris, let’s hear it!!!!!!
    ML, Linda

  71. Tony DePhillips

I agree Joe. Good to hear from you.

  72. Joe Pendleton

Thank you Karen. My understanding (from “Inside Scientology” and numerous accounts by people who were on the scene at the time) is that Miscavige took power in the COS by first ingratiating himself with LRH and then one step at a time, using a combination of getting rid of rivals and intimidating others with a mixture of force and boldness, consolidating power until there was only him. One could compare him in his methods to Stalin I would say (or even how Hitler got rid of rival Nazi sources of power after he became Chancellor of Germany). Now of course the game is to 1. expose the current abuses in the COS, and 2. set up a new model moving forward to keep Scientology philosophy alive and working in the post-LRH era.

I have been over that website you referred me to. I’ll quote the following from it “So, too, did LRH have a last wish to end one-man rule. He created an elaborate corporate structure, with power distributed among seven boards of trustees and directors in three religious corporations. Alas, so, too was his will subverted by a man hungry with a lust for absolute power.”

Obviously the elaborate structure and the seven boards and three corporations did not present Miscavige with enough of a problem to keep him from taking over the church. And I don’t know for a fact that LRH did actually set all this up and for what reason. But in any case, my point was that there was not an HCO PL or an LRH ED issued to ALL Scientologists that said something to the effect of “I wish to announce that on my passing from the scene, I do not want there to be a one-man rule of the Church of Scientology or any allied Scientology corporate entity. And to that end, I have created the following boards and religious corporations. THE FOLLOWING POLICY LETTER WILL DELINIATE EXACTLY HOW I WANT THESE ENTITIES TO WORK AND INTERACT TO KEEP SCIENTOLOGY INDEPENDANT OF ANY HARMFUL INFLUENCE AND TO KEEP EXPANDING TO THE GOAL OF CLEARING THE PLANET…………. ”

Such a direct and VERY clear communication and policy set down by LRH (along with what would need to be done if indeed the church WAS taken over by someone) would have gone a long way toward preventing the Miscavige putsch (as was once said in Germany).

  73. Joe Pendleton

    * computer error – I meant to END my last post with that positive note on the game as we move forward (not to put it in the middle as it is there ….sigh!)

  82. Martin Padfield

OK – so we are exactly at the half-way mark – 2500 signatures. My good friend Carol is number 2500.

HOWEVER – the rate has slowed down significantly. The target WILL NOT BE MET in time by 24th October if we don’t collectively take on more responsibility for this. Just 2 weeks to double the signatures or else this has all been in vain. The rate needed now has climbed to 178 per day bare minimum.

Please, please go through your contacts AGAIN and get the momentum back on track. I have noticed few Indies promoting it on their F/B page – why? Without wishing to hector or lecture anybody, surely anyone who can find 5 minutes to write pithy comments on this blog can also find 5 minutes to get a couple more friends and family to sign?

  83. Thank you for this timely post, Marty. It knocked the wind out of me, thus expelling all the last bad air, and when I started breathing again, I was breathing clean stuff. Right between the eyes truth.

Sam’s post about the puff piece on DM and Karen#1’s post about psychological warfare helps define the HOW such a psycho keeps his minions in the dark.

You have inspired me to get more informed. PTS/SP tech, and other Hubbard references; Stout’s book (and others available) expose similar material. Data Series a timeless tool to sift the data, facts etc.

One thing always bothered me – DM’s kind of supremo title of Chairman of the Board. As though this gives him top rank powers. Any person only slightly informed about corporate structure knows that Chairman title does not confer any special power over other board members, just one vote like every board member. Except perhaps in the case of a tie vote where Chairman votes as tie-breaker or something – which would have to be specified in Bylaws. Corporations by their very nature prohibit a one-man-in-charge-deciding-everything. In fact, if established as fact, such a “practice” could “pierce the corporate veil” and reach in to expose it as illegal, fraudulent, etc. Yet DM proudly proclaims it over and over, the very title is THE chosen title used throughout the world of the Church of Scientology. Look at nearly every single success story these days. (I notice the lawyers are trying to minimize the title these days, and are trying to replace it with “ecclesiastical leader” a rather vague non-corporate title – albeit not covered in any Hubbard policy).

As per PTS/SP tech – the criminal is always trying to get caught, and like every other criminal, DM always offers us in every sword thrust, a way to undo him. Each sword he uses has another edge – the double edge that will slice his hands and expose whose hands are bloody. His POB title is yet another of those double edged swords – used to keep the minions (everybody except him) under control, but exposing him for doing it.

  84. Oops, error at end of comment. I meant to say “his COB title” not his POB title.

  85. Marty,
Thank you for this great post! You continue to bring bits of sanity to the mix. I admit, I haven’t wanted to read anything after having the Basics forced on me. (which I didn’t do). Sometimes I need to realize expressing my self determinism is good but, don’t throw out the good with the bad in order to do so. You are spot on with this post, IMO.

I feel like because I see what’s happening I have a responsibility to stand up for good honest people and not allow them to be harmed. For me this goes double for my family.

  86. Sandy,
Just a quick question here: I believe one has to have US citizenship in order to sign a petition. Is that right or can anyone sign it?
    Greta

  87. I thnk he’s taking the day off. 🙂

  88. I think it’s completely backwards that a musician takes lyrics then makes the melody. From what I’ve seen, it’s the melody first, then vocal sounds, then lyrics. That he does as good as he does w/ what he gets from me is outstanding. So let’s give him abundance and see what he does, shall we?
Jim Logan wrote a few weeks back directly to DM and quite clearly expressed his feelings. It was a bolt of lightning, then complete silence. It was a poignant and personal piece of communication. It inspired this one. For you, Jim.

    Always You Feel Me

    Always you feel me,
    When you’re tossin’,
    …tossing an’ turning.
    Always looking,

    You keep her cryin’,
    …an’ everyone down.

    Sometimes I’m thinkin’,
when your thoughts are not alone.
    Always you feel me,
    Always you feel me,
Putting that shiver through your bones.

    You know I’m watchin,
    …that I’m watchin’

Cuz you’ll always you feel me
    Always you feel me
    Cold as a stone—hot like a fever!
    Yeah-oooo!—always you feel me!
    Always you feel me!

  89. Ooops. I’d better not quit my day job:

    You know I’m watchin,
    …that I’m watchin’
    All while you keep her
Cuz you’ll always you feel me
    Always you feel me
    Hot like a fever—cold as a stone.
    You’ll always feel me,
    when you’re all alone.
    Yeah-oooo!—always you feel me!
    Always you feel me!

  90. One of my constant beefs, is the ASI traffic from LRH to ASI, is NOT shared publicly. In that traffic, you’d see just how LITTLE LRH focuses any praise on DM. The “COB ASI” despatches, number less than 25 total, and from memory they don’t contain ANY of the hype of this website.

The traffic from LRH in his final years, the Int/S traffic, the CO CMO Int traffic, all the ASI traffic, the very few RTC traffic advices, ALL needs be put in the public domain someday!

I repeat, when I was the computer person at ASI, 92-95, the INCOMM Int guy, Rog Kernbach told me “COB’s Asst” wanted the specific “COB ASI” traffic REMOVED from the ASI computers, and I obliged partially (I left the 23 or so “COB ASI” advices on the ASI computers, but just inaccessible, since i didn’t think LRH would have wanted the traffic removed from the ASI computers entirely.) and then I put the “COB ASI” traffic on a standalone computer and personally drove it to the Int INCOMM computer, so DM had the traffic for his own personal access on that standalone computer, a computer given to INCOMM Int from ASI where I worked.

That itself must have been some sort of financial corporate irregularity of some sort.

Anyways, I think so much could be further explained and resolved by simply making LRH’s final 8 years of private traffic public, that’s such an understatement.

  91. They call it proud cut. They’re castrated but don’t think they are.
Results from the person who did the job didn’t quite get it all out. Like when DM didn’t get the crap knocked out of him when he struck a pc at St Hill.
So now we got a “partially balled pope” who thinks he’s a stallion!

  92. Tony DePhillips

I got another signature for the petition.

  93. Tony DePhillips

I found an easier way to get signatures.
    1. Call a person up that you think is sympathetic and ask fi they would like to sign the petition.
    2. They say yes.
    3. Tell them you will sign them up. (better control)
    4. Ask them for their email address and city and zip code.
    5. Take that info and create their account on the government site.
    6. Have them forward to you the email they get from the government to complete registration.
    7. Complete their enrollment and sign the petition for them.

  94. Your humble servant

    Great quotation. Thanks

  95. Marty, thanks for the recommendation – it goes on my reading list. Like many others here, I have studied extensively on the subjects of cults, sociopaths and mind control and have found it invaluable.

I believe that for the term “Suppressive” to have any clinical use, it would have to be divorced from any purely political definitions. Imagine, for instance, if one of the definitions of the word “sociopath” were “anyone who criticizes or questions the government or its leaders.” Right away it would become useless as a clinical term as its usage would get muddied with a political agenda. Likewise the term “Suppressive” has gotten muddied with a political agenda – enforcing loyalty to the Church and its leaders.

In my opinion, this is why devout Church members cannot spot Miscavige as a sociopath. He’s a Church leader, therefore “can’t be Suppressive.” And those outside the Church who are speaking out against the Church and its leadership are “obviously” Suppressive as they are challenging the Scientology establishment.

That’s why I prefer the term sociopath – it doesn’t get mixed up with a political agenda.

Anyone can sign it – AND SHOULD!!!

Jeff, I tend to agree. And thank you for posting the modern accepted characteristics of the sociopath which got me onto this line of investigation in the first place.

  98. Good Job Chuck

Thanks for making a specific note that LRH had no praise for DM in the 25 dispatches.

  99. References which cover DM are all on the PTS SP pack. For exemple : “running out good staff”, he ran off so many, Marty and Mike, and basically all bigs execs before them (Aznaran, Walker etc…), not every one of them was a “good staff” (thinking of Broeker who seems to have been a crook), but the others were good people. He’ll wind up alone. And will blow as destructively as possible, it’s written in the HCOB, it can be predicted. He should be exiled from power, it’s written on “an essay on management”. Those guys inside should understand that the survival of scientology as something to do with the dismissal of DM.
It would be great to review every HCOB of PTS SP course.
Does someone remember a class VIII tape which talks about L&N where LRH gives an exemple of the situation of an item which couldn’t be accepted.”Father Guisseppe”, he calls the item… Really great tape.

  100. Funny — I wrote and produced a TV ad to sell the “Ups and Downs” VM booklet (about PTS/SP tech). It was completed and presented at the 1998 Maiden Voyage as part of the “largest Scn Dissemination campaign ever.” The ad was cute — talked about “toxic people who want to cut you down to size” and showed a lumberjack about to hack down a huge pine tree. But the tree has other ideas and bends a branch back lets it fly, sweeping the nasty lumber jack into the air and down the mountain side. Then the tree heaves a sigh of relief. Of course His Royal Popeness on a Box stopped the entire campaign only weeks later. The ad was never used for it’s intended purpose. All DM wanted to do was get IAS donations.

  101. Who is the Lombar Hisst ?

……”I give Ron a pass on this, as from what I’ve read, he was in bad shape physically and mentally his last 6 or 7 years”……. Do you believe that really ??? can you tell me then how could the old man write a decalogy – Mission Earth – within one and a half – 2 years during this period ??? i don´t believe that Ron was in such a “bad shape”, impossible………..only thing i could say, is that it appears that Mary Sue didn´t trust DM after Ron´s dead, but of the other hand i don´t understand then why she kept quiet.

  102. Thanks Martin. I will get that handled today AND pass it on!
    Greta

  103. Marty,
What a pleasure to have a nice Long Fall Blow Down on a Sunday morning for FREE. Ah, self caused…. (sight) Thank you!!!! 🙂
If I am diligently studying daily LRH materials…a big thank you to the Indies that prodded me along to come out. Back on purpose (which I had lacked for 21 years).

Because this subject of PTS/SP is so basic/vital it is next on my study program. Should anyone feel tempted to do likewise (strongly recommended) make sure to ALSO look at Old Plain Thetan’s article “PTS/SP Tech corrupted” dated 4 Aug 2010 on http://www.scientology-cult.com in order to get the full extent of the current out-tech on this subject as practiced in the Co$. Particularly people still under the radar could highly profit from this and find it helpful to ‘see the light’.

By now I have also installed a bag next to my computer in case of compelling body fluids should Sam speak up some more (highly likely and looking forward to it :)). It’s just cope and organize…..
Greta P.S: On my recent “working vacation” I turned an unsuspecting Scientologist into an Indie and it was so easy. When asked about how to summarize his experiences in the CoS he just said ‘brutal’! Once he got it he came back on purpose in a snap.

  104. My typing dupwidesown is along coming. The beer is good! Very nice place, with hills and sheep and roos too!

  105. I’ve been trying to respond but apparently Down Under is rejecting my computer, it being from another less than Aussie place. I’m working on it.

  106. Perhaps the sociopath needs a little “Mental Health Court”

  107. Joe Pendleton

Lombar, I base my statement initially on the following: 1) I’ve read many times on this blog by folks who say they were close to the scene, that LRH had allowed Miscavige to take over his comm line and be the gatekeeper to what comm came to LRH. Having studied LRH’s work for 40 years, I cannot believe that the Ron we all know (who believed in the multiple viewpoint data system and open communication lines) would agree to such a thing if he was OK. 2) Up until the late 70s, LRH’s output and comm to staff and the public was tremendous and constant. This stopped. As Ron had been a prolific producer until this time, this was a sign of his contion, mentally and physically. Re: Mission Earth. Although I am an obsessive reader – hours each day – and a dedicated student of LRH’s work for almost 40 years, I do have to admit that I have not read much of LRH’s fiction, so can’t comment on the quality of this work nor can I evaluate (for myself) if it seems like Ron even wrote this work, or when.

But most of all Lombar, I do think that a healthy and completely engaged LRH would not have allowed the COS to be taken over by Miscavige in the early 80s (or allow Mayo to be declared and many other things). Anyway, I’d certainly like to believe that he wouldn’t.

  108. Martin
+1 Good link to post on this issue. Thanks dear.

  109. Remember those ads well. They were genius! As far as I remember DM blamed it on the faulty continuation campaign why they never were distributed. If you give me your contact email I’ll tell you a little story about these ads that you’d appreciate to hear.

  110. Who is the Lombar Hisst ?

No, no, there must be other reasons Joe; nobody who is not mentally on a good shape coult write such a fantastic act like Mission Earth in none of time. Read it and you´ll see.

  111. LRH said that it takes society 20 or 30 years to catch up.
Now the psychologists are gradually cogniting that what LRH said many years ago is right but the data has only gradually filtered through to them and they don’t see the source.
LRH said back in 1950 that the sociopaths should be kept away from the mainstream of society and now the psychologists gradually come to the same conclusion.
LRH has been criticized for disconnection policies but they were intended to safeguard people from sociopaths.
The psychologists are finally catching up and advocating exactly the same thing.
Its great that the lady finally fognited 50+ years later.
The max comm lag I’ve seen with a PC in session was 45 minutes.
I had my own “decompression period” back in the 80s and read extensively mainly looking at those whom LRH had read and studied – Crowley, Korzybski, Freud. It took me quite a few years to extract myself but when I finally did I could only marvel at the way LRH had distilled the most important data from that morass.

  112. You might be interested to know that at Sydney’s “festival of dangerous ideas” last week, one contributor, Jon Ronson, is the author of “The Psychopath Test”. Interestingly, he interviewed some corporate highflyers and argues that some of them are successful due to the very traits that make them sociopaths/psychopaths.
I think that’s an observation, not an excuse.

  113. Actually, all my music stuff is in storage, but I’m handling that problem shortly.

  114. william Johnson

I can’t believe that you would recommend a book written by a PSYCHOLOGIST, the sworn enemy of $cientology! Are you slipping? What would ElRon say? Shouldn’t you be recommending $cientology, it is supposed to fix anything?

  115. martyrathbun09

    Heather,
Thanks. You might want to read the book. Stout argues that American culture cultivates sociopathy by glamorizing and rewarding it. Modern mental health figures peg sociopathy at about 4% of the population in America. In the far east where Taoist and Buddhist thought imbues the culture, and thus development of youth, the figures in some places are 1/100th in terms of percentage of sociopaths. I even think the 4% figure is consistent with Hubbard’s 1965 2 1/2% – what with the way this culture worships vultures, a rise of about 1 1/2 percent sounds about right over 45 years.
    Marty

  116. martyrathbun09

To belittle her with the term “fogniting” is small minded. Read her book. She made those observations through 25 years of helping victims of sociopathy; demonstrating far, far more confront than most Scientologists I’ve ever encountered.

  117. tape 9:
“In America such an item would be mother, do you see? You wouldn’t dare put, a lot a lot of areas wouldn’t dare put the word mother on the list. In Italy it would be priest. You know, father Giuseppee (laughter). Has anything been unmocked? Yes. Who or what has tried to unmock you? See? You’re asking, anything tried to unmock you? Right away this is what communicates you know. he’s asking himself has anything been unmocked, anything uncocked, father Giuseppe, aha, oh no. (laughter) Can’t give it to him. Now you do give it to him. He is now all in the middle of guilt. He’ll give the manifestation of you having found the wrong item but only visually, the way to really get him in trouble is to continue with, a little bit further, and really give him a wrong item, you let him struggle with that one, very often you give the PC a wrong item, he struggles with it. But you can give him a right item which he struggles with. It’s whether or not it obeys the rules of listing. It obeys the rules of listing, that’s his item. Father Guiseppi that’s it, pooh. Oh no oh no oh no, yes, yes I guess that’s it. (laughter) he’ll come right straight through it, you see. Alright! “

  118. Thanks for the recommendation.
I didn’t want to read LRH or anything for that matter. I just wanted to GTFO and raise my little kids in peace, make a living somehow, get some happiness back into my life, destimulate, find some stability somehow.
Unfortunately, I had no recommendations because I had nobody to talk to about those 12-13 what I consider to be formative years I just spent totally 100% immersed full time in the CofS.
Steve’s and your blog were the first sign of sanity I came across on the internet. Thank you.

  119. william Johnson! Ha ha hahaha! You’re on a dwindling spiral, dude! The first letter of your supposed first name has shrunk to lower case already!

But aren’t your initials really J.A.?

Ethics is Reason and the Contemplation of Optimum Survival. Optimum Survival means the survival of all beings, not just those in whatever “club” that is you belong too, that sees “enemies” everywhere.

If you know of some psychologists that are YOUR “sworn enemies”, better look in the mirror and figure out what you’ve been doing to alienate them, and how you can turn yourself into their friend, instead of continuing to be their enemy!

Get your Ethics in on yourself, dude, or life will put them in on you.

Learn how to help folks, perhaps? Get some auditor training, perhaps?

  120. LRH would have called it something other than small minded.
I understand that you have your decompression to go through Marty but I have seen a lot of people go through decompression and most got lost wandering around in the meanderings of psychologists and billologists and channelingologists etc.
I do not think that you are doing the community a service by promoting such material.
People leaving the CofS now have lost a lot of stable data. Suggesting that they read psychology books is a really bad idea. M9 *rate the above and report to MOQ if you have disagreements.
Put them back on source. LRH tech is the best stable datum. After the abusiveness of DM “tech” people need to find LRH tech again not get directed to a psychologist for study material.

  121. martyrathbun09

I’d say you are in need of some de-cultification. Scientology is dying as a cult; and your mentality is not reversing the process.

  122. I audited a number of people and it was pretty consistent that the IAS regs would come up as a problem…
I am 1/3 into “the sociopath next door” and am finding it VERY enlightening. Thank you!

  125. Hubbard himself was a sociopath too though. My ex took alot of his teachings and used them on me, so I would know. By talking about PTS/SP’s all the time Hubbard was hiding in plain sight. My ex was a sociopath who studied Hubbard’s brainwashing techniques until he perfected them and tried them on whoever he came in contact with – he knew if he talked about sociopaths incessantly than no one would think to look at him. If anything Hubbard was worse, more pernicious because he enforced loyalty by being kind to you and giving you tokens of spiritual insight which was more perverted than someone who comes out and mind rapes you directly. It’s all narcissistic projection and why Hubbard was so against anyone looking into psychiatry. It would explain how he did what he did. Robert Jay Lifton’s ‘Thought Reform and the Psychology of Totalism: A Study of Brainwashing’ lays it out for a more thorough understanding of his techniques which I am sure was on the scene long before David Miscavige arrived.
